Just booked my flights for California in Sept of this year!
Going to visit - Marin County, Downieville, Mammoth Mountain, San Juan & Santa Cruz....
....and any other suggestions from you guys who may have been before (especially the South) - between San Juan to Santa Cruz?
Let me know if you have any ideas of other place to visit??
Lake Tahoe is amazing as well fantastic singletrack jawdropping views .Kamikaze @Mammoth bike park , you'll start off thinking this is just a fire road then when you pick up speed and look at the sheer drop watch the corners !
You should try and visit Yosemite. It will leave you aghast.
Santa Cruz is cool but make sure the weather is good... not under your control obviously but we went during a pacific storm. let's just say it wasn't like a scene from Baywatch although 52 channels of telly in the Comfort Inn and the outdoor jacuzzi were used. Americans question Scottish mentality when they see you in the rain and gusting wind in a hot tub having a great time.
You cannot ride off road in Yosemite by the way.

Thanks OF - we did Tahoe last year and it there were jawdroppingly excellent views as you say, but we found the riding 'ok', so we have decided to leave that out this time around and see if we can get in some different places (as well as our favorites from the last time!). And I have to agree with Mammoth, that is one of the places where we only spent a day last time and have decided it deserved more time - so this time we are going to give it 2/3 days!

Thanks TBC - We didn't get any time as Yosemite last time (other than driving past), so this time I think it has to be a must! Santa Cruz was excellent weather last time, but again not enough time there - so we are going to do 2/3 days here too! (PS: It was scorching last time!)

Is there anyone else who can help us plan our gap? (Between San Juan & Santa Cruz)

Marin County, Cali
This time when you get to Marin County, stick around for a second beer.
Hi Charlie......Ha ha! Yeah buddy. We are arriving on the Saturday afternoon this time and we figure that someone will allow us to park up somewhere? So you need to put the 10th Sept (evening) in your diary.
The flight is now booked for the Friday 9th Sept and the RV is booked to pick up on the Sat 10th Sept and then we will be heading straight to Fairfax - so a ride is definitely on the cards for Sunday! (and a few beers on the Saturday night!)
Really looking forward to it!
