I could do with a new rear tyre, 26", say 2.35" width.
Hi Rollers are my normal choice but they seem to be holding their value at all the usual suspects, wiggle, next day rubber,CRC etc.

Anyone snapped up any bargain decent rubber they want to point me towards?

Thanks

These are brilliant and a bargain for the top spec ones.

£56 a pair is not a cheap tyre for me. Looking at £15 each!
*I accept that's low, but that is my budget

Intense tyres are well worth a lookin if you don't mind a bit of weight but they far make up for it in strength and grip.
Usually a second hand set or 1 pop up on ebay pretty mint if not there then PB.

Highly under rated tyres that never got much press iirc.

26 inch tyres are only cheap relative to the eyewatering prices of 650b/ 29

They're not light, but they grip like mad and are tough as anything. I was happy with mine at £35!

Maybe try the On One Smorgasbord? You can get the 2.25 in dual compound for £12.99 atm. I've been very impressed with mine fullstop, at that price it's a bargin. Or maybe the 2.4 Chunky Monkey if you want something a little wider, although the 2.25 comes up quite wide.

The Geax stuff from On-One is really good, the Datura moto style tyre makes an excellent winter/mud tyre and the DHEA is essentially another Minion clone for s fraction of the price.

Both folding bead, both lovely tacky rubber compounds and I believe the DHEA is dual ply too but I'd have to check that. Either way the folding Datura is currently £15 and the DHEA is about the same....I bought some this week in anticipation of winter riding already.

Also their own brand stuff is Maxxis by any other name (made by the same people I believe) and the Chunky Monkey front, Smorgasbord rear seems a popular choice....never got on with Smorgs myself, they're like an Ardent IMO (crap) but the CM up front is decent, reminds me of a Trail King/Rubber Queen tread.

I think their stuff is just a tenner at the moment?!...so stock up.

re. High Rollers, you're right they're holding their price. They noticeably dropped when the HR2 came out but when people realised it was no different/better they went back to buying cheaper original High Rollers....I did anyway....and I think that has kept prices high.

Both the Minion and High Roller are classics for a reason, hard to see where to go from there!....if it isn't broken and all that. Schwalbe tried something different with the Hans Dampf but it clogs with mud easily.....moto/intermediate style tyres like the Mary and Shorty seem popular with the Enduro/DH crowd but can be a bit much for general trail riding.

I too like the Geax tyres from on-one, ISTR they are remainders after a change of branding. It's best to stock up now, I believe.

Not really aware of the likes of maxxis etc running out much 26 to retailers so the price cut can only come retail end on most things and if they are in demand why cut.

If anyone fancies trying out a Chinky Monkey then I've got one that's only been used for a few rides - too wide for my forks so needs to go.

£8 plus postage.
