....a 140mm+ hardcore hardtail? (Ragley mmmbop Soul/Evil Soveriegn/456 Summer Season etc) I saw a lime green Ragley in the Classifieds and wanted it immediataly.

I have a full suss and a Steel 120 forked HT. I don't have the biggest gonads and am suffering from a confidence issue rolling over any bigger than 6 inches lately.

Its inexplicable - isnt it?

hardcore hardtail != hucking

the pig is suited to steep technical things - the slack head angle really gives confidence. This is not the same as launching over things

OK, to qualify - rolling over big stuff / a big 2.4 Hans Dampf/High Roller tyred HT for Peaks / Trail centres with sodding great fork weight no real object.

NOT 6ft gap jumps/northshore (would need many, many more courses with Jedi).

Mmmbop is a great bike. Build it light-ish though. Got mine with revs at 130, hope/crest wheels and 1x10 xt. 60mm stem and wide-ish bars. It's brilliant. Had it built burly with lyriks and heavy wheels and didn't enjoy it much, too slack and too heavy for me and the riding I do.

Have you ridden one to see if you really do want one ?

I have a Blue pig, massively overbuilt for the riding I do, but I do love it.
Going to lighten it up soon though I think, it spends a lot of time on singletrack with the lyriks wound down to 115-120, something lighter and airsprung would probably do wonders for it as Mr Blobby has said above

If you can afford it,want it and then enjoy it all good!

Do not worry about what people think nor the niche marketing malarky.

I have had 2 alpines and Dialled PA and other long travel hardtails plus several long travel bikes full suss and enjoyed them more than any of the lightweight supposedly quicker better suspension bikes out there that i ahve had. I seem to get on better with the angles and general nature of the bikes.

I do not jump any more i ride slower downhill than a sloth marginally quicker uphill but i enjoy 90 % of the rides i do.

Skills compensators yes.......overkill yes......bothered no!

Go and enjoy

I want a 160mm full suss all mountain £5k superbike for pootling around Britains green and pleasant peaks, lakes and trail centres. Crazy innit?

How about an adjustable travel fork for your current hardtail instead? I've got a Soul with 110-140mm travel and it's all the bike I'll ever need.

(Apart from a Carbon Mojo HD 9.9 UberRadToThePowerOfSic as above)

Not a bad idea - anyone know what a Genesis Altitude Reynolds 520 is rated to? I did consider getting a 2nd hand Pike for it. even Crazier, I have a 2003 Marz Z1 Freeride perfect working order sitting in the shed doing nowt.....

Up to 130mm of travel, but they definitely handle much better with slightly shorter forks.

An old 130mm Z1 is about 10mm taller than a 130mm Rockshox Revelation too, so will slow the steering down somewhat again.

Had 130mm Revelations on mine, now have 120mm Rebas and the bike feels much better for it. It's definitely the rider not the bike that's the limiting factor, many moons ago I witnessed Steve Peat win a DH race on a GT Zaskar with 80mm forks and V brakes, when everyone else was on 8" travel bikes...

Just to kinda agree with mboy, mine has the stock 130 uturn Recons on it. I set them to 120 as I too felt it rode better that way. Gotta be a betterer fork that than the Z1 also....
