🙂

May? As in "Be like a flower and turn your face to the sun."

THAT May? The not freezing cold and only vague possibilities of floods one?

He's gone soft. Bet he's been listening to Wings and smiling at sheep.

Pint after?

I'm in!

Now I need to find something daft to ziptie to my helmet so everyone cheers me on like last time, as sadly my plastic aeroplane broke on the final lap.

That's a shame. It was a lovely plane.

I'm going glam this year....

Is it a good event? The web link doesnt really seem to tell you anything.

Whats the terrain like?

Quite possibly, it's rather close to the Euro 24hr's in the first weekend of June though, so maybe not.

Breninbeer, really good fun and a decent crowsd: usually a mix of single-track stuff and the odd daft bit to spice it up. Can highly recommend, I'm going

Not sure if I'd call it singletrack ...it's basically a route around an inner city green space. Good fun yes, but not singletrack in the MTB sense. I'd say the fun comes from the challenge (how many laps you can do in two hours) and the sense of spirit from a bunch of bikers coming together.  Can't say the terrain is particularly interesting - it's just a park in Manchester.

Well that's poured a pint of piss over it.

The event will be brilliant. Miserable sods need not apply.

It's a field in Manchester in much the same way that Kylie is a bit of a looker, the Beatles were a decent pop band and Piers Morgan is a bit of a knob.

A place where mud is worshiped, where loins are girt and where porridge is king.

On a good day, you can almost see heaven, just over the horizon.

Wahey!

There is usually singletrack btw, some lovely bits.

Course is varied, character building in the mud, fun in the dry.

You can ride it on anything.

There's a great pub round the corner.

And a nice field where you get your breath back.....

🙂

Where you at Harry? No chance of popping back for a day?

I'll text Louis.

I can beat him. He's only allowed the one lap.

I'm in, well not officiially yet, but will be soon when I get round to actually entering.

Target for this year is to be not quite as nearly (but critically not actually) last as last year! I may be slow, but at least my bike kind of stayed in one piece, unlike the bloke walking back with his crank in hand. Although my wheel was a very funny shape after an over the bars down that first hill/mudslide!

And a nice field where you get your breath back…..

*thousand yard stare*

Not in this year, imminent baby arrival around then.  Top tip, a Nukeproof mega probably isn't the best tool for the job, it certainly didn't feel like it.

Do the race though, it was mu first ever race/event and i was just left completely bewildered, is there a band playing at every race? 😀

That middle photograph up there ^ That's me at the right hand side of the frame "enjoying every minute of it"

Shortly before I overtook number 8 IIRC.

I entered a couple of weeks ago for my 4th attempt.

I'll share it on a few of my local Facebook groups.

Last year was great fun. Just watching the CX guys getting ejected OTB on the first downhill made it worth the entry fee. Whats not to like about a race where the winner gets a massive pork pie.

Pork Pie you say?? *actually considers training*

I'm going to be gutted if it doesn't run, though probably not as much as Jason who's obviously put a fair amount of organising effort in so far, so come on people, get those entries in!!

All being well I will be there in a 'supervisory' capacity. I'm not sure if this in an incentive or not. I will be dishing out encouragement and 'hilarious' 'bantz'.

I'm in, first go so hoping it doesn't get cancelled! Second ever race after the IoM End to End - got to be better than that!

Come on!

From my race organising days this bit is a proper PITA for Jason. He’ll have to start paying bills this week, so he needs the entries now. Dithering until you’ve seen the weather forecast the day before isn’t going to help.

HTN isn’t a cash rich organisation with a float to cover upfront costs. Pre entries are what secures the services of the first aiders, timing, council fees and all the rest of the costs.

May 2018 race is off. Not enough entries. That's the bad news.

THE GOOD NEWS is that I'm now aiming for a festive-themed HtN6, some time in December. Winter has always been the most popular time for this event anyway.

I've always thought that Hit the North has something to contribute to the holy festival of Christmas.

I've been checking with North West and Yorkshire cross league people so there's no clashes there and I'm just waiting for the nod from the council and the forestry commission.

All being well a new date will be confirmed in the next few days and refunds will be offered to those who can't make it. I'll re-open the entry soon!

Jase.

Well, you’ve no excuse now. 8th December. Surely no one has anything planned that far in advance?

That's right, 8th December 2018.

Entries will reopen in a couple of weeks once I've sorted out refunds.

Cheers, Jase.

Well I'm still in! Hopefully this will give me some motivation to keep on riding through the shitshow that is November. Plenty of time to work out some ridiculous festive-themed headgear also, excellent.

I passed so many struggling CXers on my Krampus crossing that field that I'd honestly recommend 3" Dirt Wizards, no really...

I was carrying a Nukeproof mega, so anything will be an improvement on that 😀

Apologies, from one of those waiting to get paid before entering.

December is perfect though, should keep the dust down.

Entry has now reopened and I've refunded those who did enter but can't make it to the new date https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/events/details/176901/Hit-the-North-6

I suppose this is a bit like crowdfunding, in that if you dick about and don't enter, it won't happen.

Think on.

Got my refund email thingy cheers. Don't worry about the last £1 - buy yourself a third of a pint from me! If anyone goes to the effort of trying to get that pound back then there's something seriously wrong with them.
