Looking for a comparison on these tyres.

I've currently HRII 2.4 EXO 3C max terra, feel pretty awesome to be fair, particularly the built in damping, even at good pressures, there's no pinging or getting flustered, there are however a couple of things i do not like -

.Knobs do suffer on hard pack berms, can feel them gripping, folding then gripping again, normally resulting in a good bit of oversteer
.Slow

Im looking for the hans dampf to give a bit of speed on the rear whilst still braking well, expecting the magic mary to be a better all rounder, ie works well in wet/loose, edge knobs are still well supported on hardpack, do they work out this way?

In short no, IMO.

They are no more supportive than a Maxxis, and after a small amount of hard use, the side knobs just tear off and become useless.

I can make a Magic Mary last a matter of days before the knobs tear, the equivalent Shorty is still going after 2 months & no tearing.

I've warrantied them multiple times, but soon got bored of replacing tyres, and using up loads of tubeless sealant. Should have just stuck with Maxxis.

I run a Magic Mary TS upfront and a Hans Dampf PS rear. Not had my knobs ripped off yet (after a year of use)on the Mary; it is less of a mud tyre than the Shorty so better all-round perhaps. The HD PS on the rear was a revelation as I'd been managing with a Crossmax but the HD is no slower but has much better all round grip.

If you're fi ding the high rollers a bit squirmy cornering on hard pack, try a minion. Either the dhf or dhr2 work great on the front and have beefier/better supported side knobs than hr2s.

Minion is my current default, am looking for the MM to do what the minion AND HRII do.

Have you tried the DHR2? Side knobs are thicker than on the DHF or HR2 (though not as tall as on the HR2 2.4) so very resistant to squirm. Don't quite understand how it rolls so fast and brakes so well!

Magic Mary TC SS up front and Maxxis DHR II 3C EXO out back has been amazing for me. Both are clearing mud really well. Had the Mary on the front since July and I can't see any wear whatsoever yet with a carbon rim and I've ripped Hans Dampf knobs off the front with the carbon rim earlier in the year.

I have run Hans Dampf out back and it squirms around terribly. Feels like you have a flat but you don't. Up front it's fine paired with a DHR II non 3C in summer.

I tried a DHR 3C on the front... and I didn't like it at all. I took it off after one ride and put a Mary back on.

I seem to like a Schwalbe up front and a Maxxis out back. Seems to be a great combination for mountain biking. I mean XC / Enduro / DH ๐Ÿ™‚

As above, try a DHR2. You'll loose a bit of all out grip in loose dirt and more mixed conditions but it will be better on hardpack. IMO, the Hans Dampf is the most pointless tyre I've ever ridden. Slow, quick wearing and rubbish cornering grip.

If you're feeling squirm in a HR you must be able to corner harder than bryce or running to little pressure. Mary will be worse.

I personally run Shorty/DHR2/HR2 as do some very fast lads I ride with and non of us have the stated issue.

Mary front. DHR2 rear saw me reet up until things got biblical here in Wales, now on Marys front and back and sometimes still look at the Dirty Dan sat in the garage for a front through winter...DH only mind, you'd not want to pedal one of those buggers!

I agree with Hob Nob, I moved from a Minion DHF 2.5 ST and HR2 rear setup to a MM and HD f/r combo.

The front is looser unless it's really loamy and the rear although quicker is less grippy.

Stick with Maxxis and try a shorty or a DHF 2.5 in whatever compound you fancy.
