Morning all, bought a second hand set of Pikes and they were advertised as 160mm. They seem a bit short to me, how can I check the travel on then?
Also they feel a bit over damped on the compression, is that how pikes feel or could they be faulty?
Sag indicators on leg?
Measure the stanchion?
Both of the above! They should have visible sag markers for 150 and 160mm. They feel pretty firm when you're not actually riding.
They will 'suck down' a small amount giving the impression they are short on travel (both my Pikes and Lyriks do this), this is normal if they are built properly (lowers are fully compressed before foot bolts are tightened, putting a slight vacuum in the lowers when they are at full extension).
When was the last time they were serviced?
They can feel a bit bouncy and over-damped when they need a service IME.
Lowers service is easy though.
Then they are 160mm
If that dirt line is where they're sagging to you need to add more air.
Look like 160 to me.

Terrible advice, completely arse about face. They should be reassembled with stantions fully extended and should not suck down, they dont come out of the factory like that, bet they're topping out as well.
The dirt line is where I've just compressed them not the current sag.
Can anyone else confirm travel by looking at the exposed indicators?
Yeah that's 160
If you are upto the job of a lowers service on them you will find the travel stamped onto the bottom end of the air shaft
Like that
160 my man
Cheers guys.
Next question, are Lyriks just 170mm pikes and can you retro fit the 170mm cartridge?
no & no
Lyric/yari is thicker walled stanchions so internals are different and the like chassis doesn't go above 160mm
Ride over a pea.
You may have to be a princess for this to work.

I'd say they're 150mm travel, the 10% sag mark on the 150mm scale looks about 15mm from the wiper seal, if they were 160, the 10% mark on the 160mm scale would be 16mm above the seal and in that pic it looks about 6mm above the seal.
Does it not say on the sticker on the back of the left leg towards the seal (presuming it's not had the travel changed)?
It's hard to say from the picture as they sometimes sit into the travel a touch.
Best way to tell would be to pull the crown away from the lowers. If they don't move 150mm. If they do 160mm. And if it does might be worth giving the air side / lowers a service.
Looks like a 160 with a tiny bit of suck down to me.
Just measure them if you can't be arsed to drop the lowers and see what it says on the air spring.
