[#5014853]

I'd like to remove the bottom bottle cage boss on the downtube of the other half's bike so I can fit a conventional top-swing mech (the bottom swing mech it came with just fills with crap and is a pain in the arse).

Because of the position of it and the design and dinkyness of the frame I can't get a drill to it. Any other ideas?

File it flat?

Yeah, could do.

What would happen if I put a bolt in and really tightened it, would/could I break the boss loose? It's an ally frame.

No - it's probably a clinch nut. Tightening will just strip the thread.

Can you use a larger diameter clamp mech and leave a gap in the shims to clear it? Or maybe drill a hole in the mech clamp to clear it(probably wouldn't leave enough metal).

Don't know, mine all just seem to pop out entirely unaided, quite the reverse problem ๐Ÿ™

Go 1x9/10/11 and lose the mech entirely.

Larger clamp's not a goer, it's the largest size anyway.

Looks like it's a file job, I'm going to do well not to knacker the paint around it.
