Does anyone have a clever way of quickly drying cycling shoes or boots?
I pull out the liner, stuff them with newspaper, remove the paper once it has soaked up the moisture and stored them in the warmest / dryest place in the house - between a radiator and sofa back. Even tried to boost the drying process by giving them a blast of my girl friend's hair dryer.
They're still not drying fast enough to prevent the dankness. Any suggestions?
Dont stuff them with news paper is the key imo
Mrs stuffs hers i dont stuff mine - hers smell like cats piss mines dont
Amoniea or something like that leaching out the news print
i have a 'drying cabinet'
consists of
1 x cheap metal shelving unit
2 x panel heaters attached to one side, wrapped in insulating bubble wrap from B&Q leaving back of panel heaters free and also front.
2 x doors also wrapped in insulating bubble wrap.
Key point is to make it inperfect so that there is room for the damp hot air to escape, i have a coat rail in there and the shelves take my shoes and camelbak in seperate locations.
It ain't pretty but it dries off shoes and jackets etc overnight, has the option of 1 heater or both and was very cheap.
Drys the wifes running trainers too after she's been out - and her shoes do whiff if left.
Put them in a box with some silica gel? You can get massive tubs used for boats etc from Wilko
Put a sheet of bounce- you know that stuff you stick in the tumble dryer inside them? The moisture absorbs the smell from the sheet of bounce..
Your cabinet sounds worthy of a pic Lummox !
Lummox creation sound expensive to run .......
My woodburner has the same effect .
Nappies are your friend. Turn inside out, insert and stand back to listen to them sucking out all the dampness 8)
Chaps at work often look bemused when they see my wet cycling shoes with cheapo disposable nappies sticking out of them, in the store room.
Just put them in the washing machine, with some towels so the machine isn't battered to death. Zero spin. Then your newspaper ritual...
a.
I spray mine with lynx if they get really bad! The girls come flocking!
Awesome! ๐ I like it.... But then, I don't have a wood burner.
clean them and rinse them thoroughly - it's the foot bacteria that maketh the stinky
a short blast of newspaper then air
Thanks very much. Genius!
half an onion in each.
I wasted a perfectly good pair of walking boots at a campsite after we got flooded by sticking them under a wood burning stove. The smell was vile and never went away, I had to chuck them out. People are recommending cardboard and natural air drying to avoid that problem, the exact opposite people are saying here.
Grans remedy
Only thing I've found that works miracles in desmellifying my salomons.
Bit pricey though.
Footwell of car with air-con. Works 60% of the time, every time. I deliberately brought my Berlingo XTR because the VTR doesn't have air-con. Sad but true.
Lab habits spread to my life at home....I spray the inside of my shoes with 70 percent ethanol, give them a rub down with a damp cloth.... inside and out.... then dry them.
it's the foot bacteria that maketh the stinky
Not necessarily. Shimano shoes are apparently well known to pong a bit when damp. However, a couple of sprays of Febreeze into each shoe before hanging them up to dry stops them smelling.
Andy
Wee on them! (I can't believe that no one else said this already!)
Won't smell like a dead cat then...
Just had to wash mine after yesterdays ride. Rode through several flooded sections of trail with a couple of mates. Thank god for Sealskin socks my shoes were completely submerged as the water was up to the axles but my feet stayed bone dry.
Tried drying the shoes with the insoles out in the airing cupboard overnight but they were stinking and fusty this morning. I should have washed them first as they were full of muddy water.
Have now washed them in Halo sports wash with is antibacterial and antifungal and stuffed them with newspaper so they should be much fresher.
