My neighbour has asked me to change the cassette on his whyte bike which has the big gripper system. I have the wheel but how do you remove the bobbins to gain access to the cassette lockring? It has what looks like a threaded rod running through the axle with an 8mm bolt on either side, do i have to undo these and then remove the rod and bobbins? I think this is going to require a socket on each nut which i dont have. Also do i have to be wary of anything like washers dropping out or how tight they are or preloading this rod might do. I cant find anything helpful on google about removing them.
Not too hard, but ideally needs two small sockets, or one socket and some care with pliers. No washers to fall out and no specific torque settings - its not load bearing - but some lock tite. I can email the 2008 service manual to your profile email, all covered in there
Thanks timwillows, i have sorted it now. Had to use pliers like you said as i only had one socket.
