Trying to source a BB86 BB the other day and seeing a thread on BB30 a couple of minutes set my mind wandering... I'm a bike mechanic and I don't even have a clue!

I'm thinking stuff that you can still buy, not something from 1930...

A quick thought to start proceedings and to delay cooking breakfast a bit longer:

Square taper - JIS plus all the axle lengths
Square taper - ISO plus all the axle lengths
For above you've got 68, 73 or 70mm (Ita) to cover most BB options.
ISIS - 68 / 73 / 83mm / 100mm BBs but all the different axles.
External BB - 24mm axle. 68 / 73 / 83mm.
Exernal BB - 19mm axle 68 / 73
At this point I get a bit lost....
BB30
BB86
BB85
BB90
BB92
BB95
Mid BB
Plus all the 3 piece propriety BMX / DJ stuff...19mm axle Vs??
?

for bmx and dj......

there are 19,20 and 22mm axles

there is also 8 spline, 36 spline and 48 spline

and different lengths to accommodate bmx,mtb and dh bottom bracket shells

and bb's for these axles and for most frames. (threaded or press fit mostly)

For HTII at least 68mm and 73mm both use the same BB, it's just spaced differently. 83mm requires a longer axle, but the BB is spaced just like a 68mm.

There are far too many though. Relevant XKCD as always

Mid, Spanish and American used to be the "standards" when I rode bmx. Dunno whether they've phased any of them out now though?

Don't forget road and MTB versions of the octalink BB, in a variety of axle lengths and BB widths

yea i think they are the diffrent type of press fit bmx bb's.

and you can get each it 19,10or22mm.

i am going to put out an early guess. i think there will be around 30 different bb types in use today

also, at least with the BB30, some standards come in a Push Fit version, PF30, both should be banned in the UK,

both of which have come about because big manufacturers do not have the confidence in their Asian frame builders to tap a thread or mill a recess for a circlip, or want to save a few more pennies,

Seriously, is there a spreadsheet or similar that gives a breakdown of the axle diameter, BB width, ID etc of all these damn press fit BBs?!
