Me and a couple friends looking at going to fort william more specifically just thinking how many days is the ideal amount where we have a chance to do everything but not draw it out? We can do XC red blue trails maybe black.

Thanks!

Depends on fitness to some extent. Ive just done Afan over two and a half days. Filled my boots and finished up nicely knackered. Another day would have been too much.

Thanks I suppose we've not taken that into account which we really should. 2-3 days sounds about right.

Fort William is not whistler. Especially if you don't fancy the world cup.

But... There's a day's good riding in the red routes (combine the 10UTB and Witches routes, don't just follow the arrows, use the maps- the 10UTB loop as waymarked is awful but there's some really nice sections mingled in with the witches trails, you can backtrack and loop and tie it all together quite easily)

And there's the nevis red- the uplifted red- it's just one trail, but I spent a day on it alone the first time I went to Nevis and had a blast. It's harder than most blacks but it's also a fantastic place to learn and grow, because you can scout it out, do another run, try something different... I popped out the end of my first day on it far more confident, and by the end of the second I was up for the world cup dh. Those were big days for me! I can name maybe 5 or 6 really important days for my riding and probably both of those qualify in there.

And you never know- if you find yourself comfortable on the red and hitting it with speed, then the world cup dh is within reach too. It changes every year and I've not ridden the current version but I doubt it's drastically different.

There's more uplifted stuff down near the bottom, I haven't done any of that though- need to give it a go. But that's it. 2 days, assuming you enjoy repeating the nevis red. I do, not everyone would.

(oh, there's offpiste stuff but it's hard- if you say red, maybe black, I think not)

Buuut... It's a good base for other riding, especially with a car. Bits of the way, devil's staircase, kinlochleven, Laggan and aviemore aren't far...
