I'm 40 next year and haven't had a break from the age of 4, so this could well be a big list (from when I remember and in the right order as far as I recall):

Variety of kids crap, then:
Chopper
Grifter
Burner
Mongoose freestyle
Haro something or other
GT fueler
SE PK Ripper
Pananonia (?) 1st MTB, which I built!! This was dad's tourer that I fitted a BMX stem, flat bars, took off the mudguards and fitted CX tyres.
Raliegh Scirroco (road)
Raleigh Team (road)
Trek Singletrack 930
KHS Montana Comp
DDG (Piece of shit) 1st full sus'
Rocky Mountain Thin Air - still best hardtail I've ever ridden
K2 Razorback
Sub 5 x 2
Marin Wolf Ridge
Tomac special 98 (or something)
Cove Hummer
Cove Handjob
Patriot LT
Norco A-line
Van Nicholas Zion
Inbred
Cotic Soul
Scott Ransom 30
224 (why oh why did I sell this bike?)
Dialled Kobe ti
GT Pro series cruiser
Massi team issue compact (road)
Haro SX cruiser
KHE cruiser
Dialled PA x 3
Cotic Bfe
Cotic soda
Dialled Alpine x 2
Patriot 66 x 2
SE Floval Flyer
5
Marin Quake 7.3
Nicolai Helius FR
Nicolai helius ST (will never sell this baby)

**** Me!!!

Lots of these have overlapped such as the bmx's and road bikes, but that's quite scary. Ah well, we all need a hobby.

I'd like to say that it's cathartic to write these down but it just shows how sad I am!

To be fair, 3 have been refunded under warranty, 5 have been stolen, and some I've ridden maybe twice before getting shut ('cos they've been crap - particularly the Ransom, which has got to be the overrated bike ever!!).

The A-line tried to kill me in the Alps, but I got my own back by dropping it off my bike rack - HA!

I had the Scirroco from age 15 to last year, and it spent the last 10 years on a turbo trainer.

Oh, I forgot the Titus Super moto.

I have no idea but I guess it will look something like Milded's list. I started riding/racing on the road in about 1986 and I'm a serial bike owner. Before 1986 I had a Puch tourer, a Raleigh something or other, my sister's old bike, a RSW16, loads of "trackers", an old (kid's) trike with a tin "boot" that rattled while you rode and probably a hatful of others.

From memory

A Rondinella Road Bike
A Roberts oad Bike
A Fuquay Road Bike
A Raleight M Trax Road Bike
A Massi CX 2000
A Merida 901 Road
A Boardman Team Carbon
A Spesh Hard Rock
A Raleigh M Trax mtb - my dad has it now
An Orange X1
A Massi steel mtb - Rotchey Prologic tubing and was my best frame ever
A Massi Z3
A Massi Z7
Another Massi Z7
A Massi full suss (can't remember what it was called) a pile of poo!
A Cotic Soul
A Massi Z8
A voodoo Wanga
A Surly 1x1
A SC Superlight
An on One Scandal
A Singular Swift
A Giant Bowery (road fixie)

I'm sure there were more but I just can't remember them all.

bro's bmx I rode a lot, cos it was cool
orange, stupidly sensible gent's road bike (not a racer - and probably incredibly trendy now, though)

2000: Dekerf Generation (still got; it should probably count as 1 1/2 bikes, bit of Trigger's broom except for the frame!)

Since 1989;

I have owned and either sold on or broken 9 MTB’s I currently own 2 which I’m using and I also own a BMX and a Road bike at the minute, this is the most “Biked up” I’ve ever been, but I think I’ll hold where I am for a bit…

But excluding non MTB’s that works out at an average of one MTB per 21.8 months over 20 years (although I’ve owned some of them simultaneously), so I reckon if I’m happy with a bike I’ll hold onto it for at least 2 years, sounds about right…

Marin County, Cali

Since I took up cycling in 1970, too many to count. My Colnago road bike, which replaced my Peugeot PX-10, lasted from '71 to 2003, replaced by a Lemond when the frame finally broke.

Since I took up off-road around 1974, I have had two Breezers, four or five Ritcheys and I still own a couple, and have added a couple of newer FS bikes.

I don't remember how many other shattered hulks I left in my wake, but it's quite a few. I hold the distinction of having broken at least one of every part that can be found on a bike, as well as a dozen frames of varying quality. I'm a big guy, I've been riding for 40 years, and I don't hold back. Stuff happens and then you get new stuff.

(mr Mc posting)

blimey some kit whores out there!
Only classing "proper" MTBs;

1994 Gt Pantera - still have it as hack bike
1997 Trek Y22, pretty but shocking, kept it for 3 months then got
1997 FSR Extreme in kawasaki green, stolen and replaced by insurance with
1999 GT I-drive- really underrated, sold recently to mates g/f.
1998 Litespeed Obed, reluctantly sold as a spine problem stopped me riding hardtails, replaced with
2004 Kona Coiler, still have as my winter/play bike
2006 SC Nomad bought used this summer for my main bike.

So out of 7 bikes in 15yrs, 1 was stolen and I still have 3.

The real MC here!

1992 - Emmelle Cheetah (£99 Halfords special). I don't think it counts as a "real" mountain bike!
1993 - Kona Fire Mountain (lasted 3 months and it got nicked).
1994 - Kona Fire Mountain: still have it now, used as adventure racing.
2005 - Giant Reign 2: still have it DH bike!
2009 - Cube SL WLS women's specific hard tail: still have it as only just got it!

So in theory only 4 bikes of which one has been stolen, and I still own the other 3!!!!!! Some real kit whores though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 👿

Had 3 since 2005

Kona Coiler - bought it assured all was ok, turns out shock bushings were shot, cranks were shot, shock was totalled, headset mashed. Scrapped it. Never rode it

Transition Dirtbag - bought it in good faith, headtube weld mysteriously cracked while it was sat in my house waiting to be completed...christ knows how that happened. Never rode it

Trek Fuel 90 - bought in good faith (and in person unlike the other purchases which were online), rode it once and boom, rear triangle cracked.

Never going near another bike as long as I live.

I simply cannot believe how many bikes some people have had here. Seems to be 2 a year for some people?!

3 for me

1992 GT Talera
2004 Claud Butler Cape Wrath
2008 Trek Remedy 8

And long may they continue to roll. (apart from the GT that was shit )
