If I want to use an Avid adaptor with a non avid brake, will it bolt straight on or will I need the conical washer set up?
I've got a Tektro post mount caliper, IS fork and a 160mm rotor. I want to run a 185 rotor. Will the Avid mopunt do it or do I need the avid mount and washer kit?
no one?
With a bit of tinkering with washers some will work some won't
IIRC I ran a Hayes 9 caliper on an Avid 185 adaptor on my old Kona FS but didn't use the conical washers as the disk was 180mm just a small stack of plain washers to bring it to the correct height.
Last week I fitted the Hayes 9's to a friends bike using Shimano post-post adaptors and still had to shim with washers to get the correct placement on the rotor.
So to sum up "suck it and see"
I do not think that you'll need the washer kit. I think that the washers are taken into account by the position of the mounting lugs on Avid calipers rather than the sizing of the adaptors. Otherwise I think that Avid brakes wouldn't work directly with post mount forks and 160mm rotors.
Actually, a quick check would suggest that my commuter's old Deore front brake is mounted using an Avid adaptor. ๐
Will fit fine. If you don't have the CPS washers - they are the same as V-brake pad washers - then you'll need to shim between the mount and the calliper but you need to do that on all makes of callipers to some extent.
ChrisL, good point about the direct fitting. I know some need fettling into final position. I'm running an Avid Juicy on the rear of a bike on a 165 rotor with a stack of washers. I was just wondering whether to order the Avid 185 mount and a set of washers of the Hope 183 mount and expect to shim. Sounds like the Avid might be worth a crack first.
