Hi, I have a set of 4 pot XT on my bike (M8120) and could do with some spares. I usually go for the genuine article, but of course they're all out of stock or north of £40!
How good are the uberbike versions? Ideally metallic, finned versions (or kevlar but they're out of stock too). Thanks
Have to be honest, bought 4xXT 4 pot pads and have had a nightmare with them, changed out the pads twice now due to them glazing or just getting a weird film over the front making them squeal and be annoying, did get some of those superstar ones so hopefully that'll do the job, can't do much worse to be fair.
argee thats funny i used the Uberbike " E Bike specific" 🙄 pads mine have done the same. I even went the whole hog bought a new rotor Shimano as im not paying stupid Avid prices! If anything they are worse than ever 🙄 Looked at the pads they seem pretty shot after only 120 miles 😠 I guess tbf i did a ride on Salisbury Plain and the heavens opened while i was riding a chalk / clay combo so that probably didnt help 🤔 Stuck some Superstar Organics on for now cant be any worse? 🤔
A bike shop mate swears by Swiss Stop unfortunately his idea of they start from £21.99 so " not too bad" 🤔 doesnt tally with mine.
Talking about it with my mate another E Bike rider we guess hauling a 50lb bike to a halt from nigh on 30 mph is a big ask with such a small amount of btaking material? 🤔 Though E Bike specific should do the nob withoit howling like a banshee unless thats the payoff 🙄
I can't tell you because when I tried to buy some they never arrived and when I queried it I got a reply along the lines of 'soz mate lost in post, see ya later'
the extra 25 lb of an ebike over a normal one makes next to do difference compared to the all up weight. e bike pads need be no different.
On pads - buy cheap buy twice or more.
Thanks all, think I'll wait for stock and stick to genuine then 👍
Always use uberbike pads, they work well for me but I've never used the fancy compounds. Semi and sintered only.
How are people centering the pistons with the finned pads, it looks like its impossible to get a screwdriver in the correct place without bending the fins.
Fibrax are very good.

What do you mean by getting a screwdriver, i tend to open up the top cap of the reservoir and push them back prior to pads going in, then centre them and then sort out the reservoir bolt/cap?
We've used UberBike Kevlar or race matrix for years. I'm a big fan.
But the last two pairs I put in my gravel bike have squarked and squealed a lot.
I wonder if something changed.
I've been using the blue ebike odds for over a year and find them brilliant. My all up weight (bike kit and me) is about 115kg and I tend not to drag the brakes. Deb uses the soft red pads which heat up quickly and bite predictably.
Another one that's been using Racematrix in all our bikes for quite a long time. Saints and Guide REs. Use them all year round, in all conditions, home and abroad Never had any problems.
"What do you mean by getting a screwdriver"
As per the video on the Hope website where you even up the piston pressure.
It's a while since I ordered any but I had their kevlars and tbf I think they're probably the exact same pads as all the kevlar pads that other companies sell. Excellent braking, very consistent, decent life, quite noisy especially in the wet, the usual. But it sounds like maybe they've changed recently?
Also tried the racematrixes but that was a sort of 2-sided experience, I did a few rides in the UK on them and absolutely loved them, basically like kevlar only better. But then I went to the alps and they just totally failed, I binned both sets after one hard descent, replaced them with kevlars and had no more problems. I should try them again for my more xc bikes though.
Finned pads imo are a sign that your brakes aren't really up to the job and I'd fix that rather than spending extra on pads, but not everyone agrees 😉
Should also say, had been using race matrix for a while, but the last batch has been constantly needing sanding down or removed and replaced with another set, then more sanding after each ride. Was bought earlier this year in the 4 pack deal, the ones i just replaced were basically 3 rides old, sanded down after each ride and cleaned, but squealed and poor braking compared to standard.
Used to be a big fan of the race matrix and would recommend to anyone asking about what pads to buy however the last ones I bought squealed like anything and I know other people with them and they also had the same issue , went back to shimano from Merlin at £32 for F & R set
I've realised that the ones currently on my bike aren't finned so probably don't need those as they feel plenty strong enough.
I've also had a pretty poor experience with the last batch of Race Matrix pads I fitted to my XT M8000s in the spring. Squealing, intermittent brake judder on the front, general poor performance.
They eventually settled down after a lot of removing, sanding, liberal application of brake cleaner to the discs and pads. However, I managed to stock up on proper Shimano G03S pads for €7 a pack which so won't be going back to Uberbike.
I had a big thread about this a few weeks ago. Used race matrix before and were fine. Due to no 4 pot shimano pads on existence bought 2 pairs. Both terrible, one knackered my disc. Squeeling, glazed, ineffective. Went to the extent of buying a new caliper to get genuine pads. Compared the 2 and the Uberbike ones were a slightly different shape, thicker backplate and you can see how they might move in the caliper.
Complained to Uberbike, they said they would take the pads back and test them, they never sent anything (despite promising) and never heard from them after that....
Think I'll steer clear then thanks
I’m running a set of the blue Ebike matrix in my magura s and they have been fine
Hell of a lot better than the Aztec things I put up front
I also have a set of ceramic pads from Noah and Theo on recommendation on here and have been great
Only swapped them out as I bent my rotor on a ride without me realising and the pads got glazed
Bit of emiry paper and sanded back and good to use again
This is disappointing to read. I always recommend racematrix pads to all riding buddies even though I haven't used them myself for a year or so. Brilliant stopping power but didn't last long, but were cheap so it didn't matter.
I'll stop doing that based on this thread
Sadly I concur - been using for years and the last set are garbage. Sanded and bedded multiple times but struggling to get any bite.
What alternatives are working for people? Very little online in terms of testing or reviews unlike other components
Cheers
I just put a set of rear XT 4 pot racematrix pads in on Friday, cleaned my rotor and bedded the pads in. Then went to Antur Stiniog on Saturday; they were brilliant, all the power and feel and no noise. I did buy them in late November, so maybe recent poor pads are from a bad batch? When did people buy the 'bad' pads?
I've been using the racematrix pads for years and prefer them over the genuine Shimano pads. I did try their sintered pads once but didn't like the feel and they were noisy (also don't like Shimano sintered pads either).
We bought our last batch about 12 months ago and have had no problems.
Abigale bought some at Easter and hasn't complained about performance.
Thread revive,
Been having real issues with my race matrix pads. First the pads move back and forth within the caliper making a creaking noise.
However the actual braking was really good. Until I took them on a long descent and they just cooked where other pads have had no issue. Sanded and refitted but never gone away since
I had this when I cooked my race matrix in Spain. They never braked properly after that.
I moved to the e-matrix pads which brake better and I haven't cooked them yet either.
I'm having the same problems with my Race matrix as well.... Glazed the rotor, so I sanded pads and rotor then got brake judder so re-sanded again which got rid of the judder but overall power is well down..... Looks like I will be changing pad manufacturer by the sounds of it.
rotor then got brake judder so re-sanded again which got rid of the judder
i seem get judder on my rotors that go thick/thin. or if i get crap on one.
I am running uberbike pads though - they are the yellow ones.
