I've got the double SLX mech on both bikes and I think the main difference is that the cage is shorter - might help on full sus frames?
Ah, would swapping from top to bottom swing (or vica versa) give you some flexibility? Thinking about it I suspect almost certainly not, but I have started typing now ๐
Assuming it is dropping to the outside then a light bashguard might be a simple solution and cheaper than a mech?

What gear do you run in the rough stuff? I remember reading a tip from Greg Herbold many moons ago that's always worked for me. I run through the bouncy ruff in big ring (biggest that you have) and half way up the block. This isn't always the best pedalling gear but if it's that bouncy, I'm not doing much pedalling. It does however keep the chain taught. Seems to work as I throw chains less often than those I ride the same stuff with. Sorry in I'm teaching you to suck eggs though.
Onzadog+1. I also have my chain slightly short and have a bash guard. Occasionally it jumps off into the middle, I think this happens with slight back-pedalling as I tend to back pedal a quarter stroke to get my right foot down on left hand corners.
Any more ideas?

Used to drop the chain now and again when I used a standard xt front mech on my 36/22 setup. Happened when changing down. Bought an SLX front mech and problem solved.

If i bought a high band front mech and positioned it 2mm from the teeth of the 36t ring like on a standard big ring and adjusted the limit screws so that it won't drop into granny position (essentially granny would be mid range on the mech and middle would be in outer ring position) - would this work? (currently go a low clamp mech and moving this down would foul the suspension linkage)
I was going to ask the exact same thing, usually I'm in the middle ring and bottom 1/3 of cassette to get good pedaling on the downs, but I keep dropping the chain.
May try the big ring theory
