So who does the best for bikes? I'm with Endsleigh at the moment, who don't!

M&S appears to be the favourite

I've been using M&S but the renewal was steep, so I've been looking at MoreThan. HAs anyone had any experience of MoreThans customer service please?

M&S money is part of HSBC isn't it?

i would also point out that I approached M&S after all the favourable comments on here about them, but they would not cover one of my bikes due to high value.

I approached M&S for very little contents in a tiny flat, only items of value were bikes and even then both <1K. They wanted £350.

I went from M&S to Greenbee (John Lewis). Also considered Hiscox who offer great cover but with quite a high excess. All our rich friends use Hiscox

There's been other M&S threads on here recently, and I've put in my bit.
So..... just be aware that prices aren't a direct way of comparison. I've got contents insurance and have gone for the " outside home" option. I've also got some unusual musical instruments and of course a couple of bikes!
They *do not* need any proof or valuation for anything below £4.5k, which is brilliant for my instruments. That in itself is a total nightmare so i don't need valuations. Bikes are also below this figure so fine.
The " outside home" bit is anywhere from our garden to.....any place in the world! This means not only are my valuables protected, but when holidaying, i don't have to take out holiday cover for valuables. This saves money.
If you compare on just on prices then you might not get a true picture. Though M&S might be a little more you might find you save overall in the picture.
....maybe!!!
best of luck

I was with M&S for a few years but then Zurich brought out a like for like policy which was £60 cheaper. Unlucky for Zurich my bikes were stolen 2 weeks after policy taken out. No problems with Zurich. Got the Zurich policy through Classic Insurance brokers, Stoke-on-Trent.

I don't know how on earth M&S work out their premiums. I live in an inner city flat and I pay £200 with M&S for contents and away from home. that covers all our bikes anywhere I believe plus any other valuables.

I really cannot understand why we get away with such a cheap premium for so much cover.

I've just got an online quote fromn M&S for 265 quid for buildings & contents inc away from home. Covers bikes up to 4 grand. Guess where I'll be going when current cover runs out?

M&S paid out a considerable sum when i lost a bike, no quibble, send a picture of me and the bike, get two quotes for a replacement and as it was a specialist bike they just wrote me a big fat cheque.

Its not the cheapest but when you addon bikes et al it really is a lot better

on this note, i was thinking that a lot of the currently insured value is down to the prices soaring for american and japanese parts. should these come down again (fingers crossed!) how often would one reasonably be expected to check and renotify the insurers?

M&S seem to give good cover as standard. I'm with Halifax who will add bikes as named items at a reasonable price.

Example £25 for adding the Chameleon, valued at £1,800, includes full cover when away from home.

No experience of claiming from them yet though, happily.

In my personal experience Endsliegh are possibly the worst bunch of insurance morons I have ever had the misfortune to deal with, and I wasn't even making a claim. I wouldn't p**s through their office window if it was on fire. Don't give them your money, ever.

we have gone with AXA and pay £139 (contents only, new for old, accidental damage etc) living just outside of Manchester City Centre, and that includes a £16 premium for adding the Genesis IO as a named valued item that i commute on, so its covered when away from home, which is certainly cheaper than insuring it on its own, happy with that.
