Any of the sheffield contingent been along Houndkirk Road recently? - I did last night for a quick spin.
I'd heard that some work was being done on it, but didn't believe quite the lengths that would be gone to completely smooth out the trail! It's turned from a great little evening blast with some nice little gritstone drops and jumps to a completely smooth gravel/sand road.

It seems to me to be such a waste of time and money as a) 4x4's, trail bikes, MTB's horses, walkers etc all could get along it without any struggle in the original state and b) the surface is so loose, after a wet winter, most of the bedrock will be revealed again (which is nice)

It wasn't all bad, had a great descent back through Blacka woods, always good for a night ride ๐Ÿ™‚

Have they done the whole lot now then, last time I was up it was only the Lady Canning's Planataion end.

You're right, that's a real shame, but plenty more in the Peak.

As you say, it will be gone in under 6 months.

Whoever in the council who had the daft idea and then spent a raft of public funds to realise it should be shot (and then buried under a mounds of that sandstone scalpings / sand mix).

I suggest doing lots of skids to help the erosional process along.
