I made a thread a few days ago asking for ideas in the lake district.
A lot of posts were made about the coniston/hawkshead area and that definitely makes a lot of sense looking at it.
Really fancy it if only we had somewhere to stay!
Wanting to stay on the nights of 18-19-20th December this year.
YHA's are closed on the sunday night (20th) and one hostel we looked at - broadlane farm? was fully booked.

Does anyone have any hostel style suggestions around the coniston/hawkshead area?!?

Many thanks in advance

If it s hostels then you have 2 in Coniston.

and

http://www.yha.org.uk/find-accommodation/the-lake-district/hostels/Coniston-Coppermines/local_info.aspx

Both great, but not sure if they are open when you want. Coppermines is a bit out of the way from Coniston Village.

The Black Bull does accommodation, however its not a Hotel. It is a Hostilery, and one of the highest order. Coniston Brewery is based behind the pub and it servers a brilliant range of real ales, although a touch expensive.

I'm pretty sure there is one at Hawkshead. Though it is about a mile from town so a little bit of a walk at night to the pub. Assuming it isn't another one that is shut.

Elterwater is one of my favs. Mainly cos it's in Elterwater and about 5 mins walk (if that) from The Brittania Inn. One of my favourite pubs in the country. Not too close to Hawkshead, but not horrendous either.

Just checked the YHA website. Hawkshead is still open and open all year round, including Sundays. You'll have to check for availability.

Elterwater is a great MTB base. THe pub also has its attraction

Bizarley the Post Office shut after the smiley people who ran it nicked about £40,000.

I had heard from a regular visitor to Elterwater that the PO had shut. He did say there was a sign up though saying it's due for reopen.

Windermere is another nice hostel but a bit of a trek to Windemere/Bowness for nightlife. Though there is a nice pub up at Troutbeck which is fairly close.
