need some new bearings and as CR have taken my money but not sent anything I'm going to buy off ebay. Are all 6001 bearings suitable or are there specific ones for the xc hub?

6001 refers to a specific size. you'll be wanting ones which end in 2rs which means there are two rubber seals - one on each side of the bearing.
so, you want 6001-2rs

There are different qualities as well. Generally Japanese or European ones will last a lot longer than Chinese ones.
