Hi has anybody had any experience using hope tech 4 v brakes with Magura storm hc rotors or anything similar I want the hope v4 brakes but don’t want to pay £120 for a vented rotor and what’s peoples opinions on the hope v4 brakes ?
I'm using 1.8mm Shimano ice-tech rotors. No need for the super thick Hope vented rotors unless you're living in the big mountains and are a big unit. Set up took a bit longer (increased fluid volume and rebleed), but once done my T4 V4 with thin rotors have been the most controllable brake I've ever used. Hope did say I might need to replace pads sooner than normal (ie with some pad compound left to use) to keep that feel... but I haven't found that to be the case yet.
EDIT: TRP and others do 2.3mm rotors by the way, from about £25 each.
Tech3 V4 here with Storm rotors. Definitely feels like the bike point can be set to come in sooner than with 1.8s, still just as finicky to set up the clearance! I really like the feel though.
I'm using TRP R1 2.3mm rotors which work well and are available for sensible money. 223/223 with V4s and 223/203 with E4s on two ebikes.
what’s peoples opinions on the hope v4 brakes
I tried them and thought the power was impressive but as it wasn't my bike I couldn't get used to the lever feel, so was over braking constantly. I was tempted to buy some.. Also tried magura 7's, again powerful but noisy with magura disc's. It was only after trying Maven's, which was as powerful if not more than the hopes, I spent money on a Bronze set for £250
I went down to 180mm on the rear to go with the extra power, by the way.
TRP 2.3. discs and V4s on my hard tail feel no different to Hope 2.3s and V4s on my full sus - I think I picked up the TRPs for half the cost of the Hope discs

Yes, I've used them with the storm hc rotors, they worked fine.
Also used them with trp 2.3mm rotors, which also worked fine.
I used the V4’s with the Hope floating 1.8 and now the steel 2.3 - the thicker ones work great, right down to very worn out pads. I imagine other 2.3mm discs will be good too. Miles longer disc life than the 1.8 as well as feeling better.
Conversely I couldn’t get the 2.3 discs to run happily in my E4 brakes, so those have the 1.8 floating ones.
I use mine with 2.0mm Galfer rotors with green Hope pads. They're by far the most powerful brakes I've used and even at 150Kg combined bike/rider weight they had no problems slowing me down on steep tech.
Superstar has cheap 2.3mm rotors at the moment
