I have a set of hope brakes - on the front (right) side, the lever spring back to the normal span settings.
On the left it doesn’t - the last 10mm or so doesn’t spring back into position but needs to be pushed back.
The brake was bleed yesterday ... and makes no difference ... it also makes no difference to the performance ...
Is it possible to lose the lever spring ...
And suggestions?
Either the lever bushings are dirty/sticky, or the master piston spring has broken.
Both cheap and easy fixes if you know what you're doing.
Edit. No spring to lose. It's inside the master cylinder. Have a look at the Hope site for an exploded diagram. Or do you mean the spring between the lever and the reach adjuster cam?
Cool ... but if i ride tomorrow before fixing, will i die?
Nope, brake will still work, will just feel weird.
If it's the lever bushing, it's only a ten minute job to clean it up anyway, just remember the tiny grub screws accessed from the side of the lever.
Once i have played with the lever bushing / grub screw, i may as well replace tbh ...
Just ordered from CRC
I decided to move out of my turkey induced lethargy ... unscrewed the grub screw a couple of turns, squirt if WD 40 ... squeeze of the lever and bingo ... all back to normal. Grub screw tightened up and it still works ... 🙂
Thanks
I had this on a very new tech 3 lever. Quick strip and lube and it was as good as new.
