To convert 142 to 148 all i need is the hope boost adapter kit correct? Do you also need to change the axel from 142 to 148 too?
Your axel is already the correct length if it's on a boost frame. So just the hope kit.
Though the hope kit doesn't put the cassette in the optimal position as it adds 3mm to each side (no redish required). Some of the aftermarket ones that fit entirely to the NDS and use a 6mm disc spacer give a 'better/correct' cassette position. However you'll need to redish the wheel with those. The wheel is coming from a 142 spaved frame and being converted to go on a boot frame so then it would require a new axle?
If you have a non-boost chainring (so not pushed out 3mm) then the 'non optimal' position of the cassette is actually optimal. If you have a boost chainring then a re-dishing kit would be 'optmal'. But in reality 3mm makes sweet FA difference.
I have the HOpe kit with a non-boost chainring and it works fine.
Axles come with frames not hubs. If your intended boost frame doesn't have an axle, then you will need one to fit it.

I just used a 'non-drive side' axle converter (spacer), and a disc rotor spacer.
Keeps a good chainline and also keeps the cassette closer to the drop-out, which 'IMHO' keeps the chainline better for the larger sprockets, where most of the torque is applied.
I was in the same position a few months back (only pro2evo) and the way I looked at it was that hope have been designing/making awesome (imho) hubs for the best part of 25 year, if they think that equal spacing is the best/safest/strongest way to do it I’ll take their word for it. It’s not like they are afraid to ask customers to re dish wheels as that’s how they do it on the front.
