just f'in bust the olive trying to shorten my brake hose. Do i replace with 5mm or 6mm the brake are mini's

What year are the brakes? Someone might be able to tell you what size they are. The 6mm hoses are the older type (my old style Minis had them) and are visibly thicker and not as flexible. The 5mm are similar in appearance to gear cable outers.

they are the new ones last years so i guess thats makes them 5mm. Looked on the destructions but nowhere does it give the size of the hose. Would 1mm really make much of a difference?

1mm will make enough difference to prevent you fitting it back together again. It'll be 5mm you want if they're last years model.
