[Closed] Hope cassette, replacing the top half or go back to shimano / sram?

My hope cassette 44t has done about 700 miles.

I meant to change the xtr chain but missed it. (mini D takes up all my spare time )

I've had an issue with a bit of a skip in the chain that I notice at the start of a ride but disappears after 30 mins of riding. I have checked the chain but no signs of a stiff link. New mech hanger didn't fix it and rear mech seems fine

I put a new kmc chain on (as that's what I had) it runs perfectly in every gear except 3rd and 4th, it skips in these although towards the end of a 20 mile ride it had got better.

A new top half is about £75 rrp.

I'm trying to decide if I should pay this or ditch the hope cassette and try something else as its not been the smooth running I'm used to with shimano /sram

What are your experiences of running hope cassettes?

Anyone used them but gone back? What do you recommend instead?

Thanks

I’ve not owned a hope cassette but I’ve never really seen the point of using so many alloy rings as they’re never going to last long being softer than a chain.

I’ve got a sram X01 cassette that refuses to die, it’s 4 years old now and done nearly 3000 Miles now I’ve just retired it from my main bike to my hardtail which had a brand new GX cassette on (can’t bear to throw it in the bin!) It may have cost £200 originally but I recon that’s pretty good vfm.

always quite liked the look of the ethirteen one as the range was bigger but in the end couldn’t bring myself to buy one because of all those ali rings so ended up going eagle.

Personally I would buy a sram one and be set for a fair old while.

I love my Hope cassettes. Allows me a bit range while still using shimano shifting. I'm now on my third alu section but still on the first stainless section.

It's been the 4th that's gone for me both times so far. Note to self, once I'm on the alu section, stop trying so hard, use the whole thing.

Onzadog, has a new chain worked with the steel part every time  ?

How many miles do you do per chain?

I rotate 4 chains but so far, they've worked with old and new halves together.

Not sure of mileage, but I ride in the Peak and that can be pretty abrasive.

It's a lightweight cassette for £75 (and whatever the steel section eventually averages out at) that allows me a wide range and my preferred shifters/mech.

I know the life isn't the longest but it's a trade off I'm willing to make.

Once we fund out if 12speed XTR will shift across an Eagle cassette, it might be a different story.

Or perhaps Hope will make a steel top section for winter training use.

Similar thoughts to boxxer above. SRAM 11s cassettes, whether high or low end, are really durable and seem to.last ages. Aluminium cassettes do not. Id have one ahead of the Hope.every time.
