If I buy a Hope 30mm BSA BB.

https://www.hopetech.com/product/bottom-bracket-30mm-threaded/

You need a special tool (HTT188) to install the BB.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/Hope-BSA-30-BB-Tool-Bottom-Bracket-Spanner-30mm-HTT188/2256067181?iid=401129422276

I prefer the Park Tool BBT tools that connect to my Torque Wrench (because it has a long arm).

Is this the correct BBT-69.2? (There are so many - I have the one for the Cinch 30mm BSA)

https://www.parktool.com/product/bottom-bracket-tool-bbt-69-2

and finally I've heard that the Hope 30mm BB works with Cinch 30mm cranks, is that correct?

Thanks.

Hope BB does work with cinch cranks (and RF BB will work with Hope cranks).

But cinch tool won't work with Hope BBs.

Just checking the socket stuff...

there doesn't appear to be a socket for Hope 30mm BBs

Can I jump in and ask a related question?

Do I need a special tool to remove the bearings from the Hope 30mm BB? They've been in there for about a year now and are starting to feel a bit grinchy. Think it's about time I popped them out and replaced them with fresh bearings. I think with my old style Hope BB, I just used a socket from a socket wrench to pop the bearings out. Is this still the case with the new fangled 30mm ones?

Oh, and my Hope 30mm screw in BB is paired with a Raceface Aeffect cinch crank, no compatibility issues at all. 🙂

Last time I checked there was not a socket type tool available for the Hope 30mm threaded BB. I got the Hope  tool and cut a square hole in it to allow the use of a torque wrench at 90*.

Same idea as this Rotor one;

Thanks for all the great replies. I think you're all right. There is no Hope 30mm torque socket tool yet.

@beagleboy I believe the Aeffect Cinch is actually on a 24mm axle so the standard [OLD] Shimano BB removal tool (BBT-9 Park Tool) will get the 24mm Hope BB off. I had one of those on my Five and used the Shimano tool.

I think it's also right the BBT-69.2 tool mentions Hope in the bumf and I notice now also the older Shimano BBs with 16 notch 44mm OD cups. Checking the traditional Shimano BBT-9 tool for the standard Hope 24mm BB which is also 16 notch 44mm OD cups. So that is the 24mm socket BB tool to get. But the BBT-9 never slips anyway.

I have the BBT-79 tool for the Cinch 30mm and it is excellent. Way better than the Race Face tool which regularly slips.

I'm only looking to maybe get the Hope 30mm BB because the Cinch 30mm ones are out of stock at my usual look-ups since a good while now. I do have a couple of old ones though so I'll try to get the bearings out and replaced if I can and re-use the cups as the next port of call.

The Cinch bearings last perfectly well for me. In the 1500 to 2000km range. I do remove the seals and re-pack them every time I remove the cranks though which helps.

It's so easy to get confused with all the differing sizes of BB now.

Question answered. Thanks STF. Brilliant as usual.
