Cheeky bleeder.
Methinks the [s]lady[/s] chap doth protest too much, you could have quoted the bit about not bothering to stop on the ace singeltrack 😉
bet it don't look that good at weekend, spot of rain forecast, hopefully heavens won't open properly until sunday.
[s]Race[/s] Event day should be dry.
Could do with a spot of rain to bed the course down else the people at the back will see nowt for dust 🙂
Peter Poddy Festival of Mountain Bicycle and General AwesomeI believe that's in a couple of weeks! Now it has a name! Yay!
LOL!! Now I know what FredBoy was on about earlier. Superb!
Made my day, that!
Is Fred back amongst us?
I doubt it, but you never know..... 😉
There's been 'conversation' behind the scenes, shall we say, relating to this thread and other planned MTB events... One of which I dare not speak the name of. 8)
That would be the Big Bike Bash then?
There. Said it. Don't care. 😉
Myself and Nick have discussed toilets and such in the past.
**looks left and right**
Err, maybe..... Who's asking? 😉
Like the Taj you say? I wouldn't argue with that.
Indeed, I don't even know how to start! 😉 🙂
Yep. But with berms.Like the Taj you say?
No, no, no. Not a berm. A balm. It is very expensive.
❓
I may well be mis-quoting The Life of Brian. 🙂
EDIT: Hopelessly so. I had entirely forgotten that [url=
balm is a dangerous animal
Ahh. Never seen it, sorry......
It's not funny. 😉
Just got back from a morning dropping flyers at bike shops around the New Forest and found this thread.
Great news that it is all go. I know there were worries and as said earlier HTN and BBB have been talking previously and sharing advice. No issues between us.
I think a few southerners are surprised by the difference in treatment from STW when threads are posted up here. I did go a 'little' over the top last year but was inspired by the HTN blanket coverage. I have deliberately reduced the level of BBBing this year but threads and posts still seem to disappear.
It is STW play ground so we just have to live with their decisions. Long live HTN, long live STW, please live BBB
I hope the Ladies Loos are not 'Bog standard'.
Thick velvety loo roll, padded throne and baby pink walls are this years must for the female race goer. After all we do spend more time in the powder room than the boys.
You will have exclusive use of the ladies and the disabled loos on the site. Proper ones that flush, not your building site type TARDIS jobs.
Bring your own paper if you are fussy.
Breaking News - Following criticism of the HtN photos the team from BBB have appointed PeterPoddy as official photigrapher!
Come to the BBB to enjoy the weekend and then judge how well PP managed to capture the spirit.
If anybody wants to criticise our marking out technique please feel free as we’ve got the best part of 300 arrows to put up on Friday and I’d rather somebody else volunteered to do it. 😉
In fairness we haven't bombarded this forum for some years now, we only started a few threads on here when the event was threatened by apathy.
granted our relentless bombardment of the forum in 2008 perhaps caused the rules to be tightened anyway, but hey ho.
I don't think we get or have ever had any preferential treatment.

I'm afraid this has quite a lot to do with why I dont want to attend WCA/BBB - I get fed up with references to it appearing on a lot of unrelated threads I read. Sorry 🙄
I do, however, wish you and the HTN team the very best for your respective events. Taking the time and effort to organise one is to be admired and commended.
lcj - I did a secret event earlier this year but you didn't turn up to that one either. It was almost as if you hadn't heard about it. I guess I can't win.
😉

We'll be up earlyish on friday, I'll give you a hand if it's not done by the time we arrive.

I was at this secret event, but I was so secretive you didn't know.
In seriousness, you obviously did win because your event was very popular, it's just that your marketing technique put me off. Nothing wrong with that. You can please some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time 8)
I can piss off most people most the time as well!
I wouldn't advertise that as an attraction at the BBB 😉
Let's keep you away from our fire eater then to avoid cancelling each other out.

I've been made redundant today so I'll be free on Friday, what time are you going to get there to start work?
Need a hand?
Sh1t!
We'll need some hands in the afternoon to help with the barriers and beer tent if anyone is free.
From what time?

Even if the course turns out to be crap, the photos blurred, the beer tasteless and the organisation chaotic, the one thing you could guarantee with unwavering certainty is that an event with that title is bound to have good cake.
"put me back on my bike, burp"
2:00 ish

The Colossal Cake Caper ?
in true mancunian tradition..... it's p1ss1ng it down, lets hope it dries a bit in the next few days 🙂
Don'y worry there is a wet weather contingency that will swing into place.
I'm sorting train tickets out tomorrow, so will aim to get down for early afternoon to help out.

❓
I shall wear a hat.
How are you lot going to cope?
Even the wet weather start line looks flat and straight!
Andrew, would we be OK to set up our Manchester Mountainbikers Gazebo-y type thing somewhere? I've not seen it but apparently we'd need a space about 10x6 metres, preferably at the side of the track.
I think we've got at least 15 riders in the race and it would be good to have somewhere to leave drinks, fix bikes, shelter etc.
We can get it down there about 8.30 on Saturday morning.
Let me know.
G
No problem. The main straight is about 400m long so I'm sure we can sort you out with something right next to it. Get it there nice and early on Saturday morning though.
Cheers dude. It will be one of the club who will be coming down to set it up (will let you know who) but I won't be far behind them.
Nice one
G
only a few hours now before the entries close - GET IN!
Anyone else overthinking their drinks strategy?
Anyone else overthinking their drinks strategy?
Well, I'm thinking of drinking over (and over) at the bar afterwards, if that's what you mean?
oh b******s, I spent the best part of a ton at the supermarket earlier and forgot to get a crate of beer. Will have to pick some up tomorrow...
Well, that should have damped the dust down nicely!
Might just take the Crossmark off the back and stick the Ignitors back on..... 😀

Don't sit in your tent and drink alone. Buy your booze in the bar!
All sorts of real ale on offer and lager for the ladies.

If they've Lancaster Bomber on tap again I'll be there 🙂
He's got 7 different types IIRC.
Not sure what though.
Pendle Head Smasher
Willow Wibbly Wobbler
Snot Gobbler
****ybollocks
John Smiths
Guinness
Stella (for the fighting).
The prizes have landed!
We've got bars, wheels, saddles, grips and assorted other bits and bobs.
Thanks to Andy at Hotlines.
Cookson Cycles are stumping up a load of stuff too.
I think we'll allocate them in the Mike Reid Run A Round style* by leaving them in a big pile and letting the winners fight over them.
G G G G Go!
*If you are younger than 40 you will have no clue what I'm going on about.
I think we should throw grips at riders' heads. If you are hit by one, you win it.
If you get hit twice, you win a pair (there's a 1 in 137 chance that they will match).
Are all prizes allocated to category winners / runners-up ? Or are we having "spot prizes" for best crash, best outfit etc? Not that I'm likely to win any of them but it may perk up some people who are taking part for the fun rather than for any real chance of winning their category. There are also some categories with few or no entries, e.g. female team, female pairs...
the categories with small numbers of entries (ie, people who are guaranteed a podium) may be subject to a 'spirit of the event' caveat.
In other words, those that turn up and p1ss around cos they're in a category of 2 teams may leave with bugger all.
Have a nice day.
🙂
We'll give you a set of grips and you can watch every rider for 8 hours and decide who has the best crash. You can give out your prize with the rest of them at 8:00pm.
😉
It can be a little project for you as I'm sure that me and Jason will be busy doing other things.
I'm reading Frankie Boyle's book and Jason has got an Airfix kit.
Acts of true brilliance, sportsmanship or stupidity may get a prize. But they may not.

If I'm out taking photos, I'll keep an eye out for crashes fo' shure 🙂
However I may be required to participate as one of the team members may be called away on medical grounds, and I've been volunteered to replace him if he can't race 😯 . Jase, can I borrow your [s]bike[/s] race weapon for a lap or four if I have to race? 🙂
Not if I'm using it, no 😉
(Or if my Ragley team mate's breaks!)
Have you not got a bike?
Have you not got a bike?
Got loads thanks. Want a go on a TD1 though 🙂
The sign-on sheets are printed up. The timing chap has confirmed his ETA. No going back now...
BUCKLE UP GIRLYMEN
There will be a memorial to Frank Sidebottom too.
Touch the Lucky Frank before you start each lap and his fantastic spirit will guide you safely through the single track.

You want to speak to Binners over here then. http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/this-rain-htn-content
haven;t even thought about packing yet. I just discovered I have a sky TV channel that shows EVERY NRL (asutralian rugby league) match, I've set about five matches to record overnight so that's tomorrow sorted....
I'm packed and ready to go.
Off to work in a minute, then pick up Mrs militant after work and a leisurely cruise up the M6 in the 110.
I see no one has taken up the Chunky Challenge.
