Although I’ve quit I’ve still got access to the online entry (but not payment details, so no new car for me) and it is selling out at a reasonable rate.
The first 2 winter races were oversubscribed so if you fancy it get along to www.hitthenorth.net before all the places go.
The only race in Manchester with a brass band, porridge and mint balls*.

*Perhaps

On a related subject there is talk of a red grade trail being constructed in Philips Park which means that the local authority have realised the potential of the site. It will link in with the new blue and red stuff in Waterdale. The woodland deck section (North West Shore) that the first 2 HtNs used would be superb if they could sort out the drainage and remove the gates.

There is a meeting scheduled soon for all the movers and groovers so I’ll report back when I know more.

And building a SS cross bike especially for it.

Just registered fella. But the firewall at work won't let me pay so I'll complete that this evening.

I'm presently building a bike more suited to the task than last time 🙂

In all honesty you could build a lawn mower more suitable for the task than last time.

Have you done the winter one before? Different beast. More technical and very little let up out on the lap.

Its a fair point.

I've not done the winter one before but then I'll just slightly alter my punishing training and preparation regime accordingly.

Its my birthday weekend then, so I'll leave you both to sort out the 21 gun salute/Red Arrows flypast 😉

I must say I'm flattered that folk are actually building actual bikes specifically for HTN.

🙂

Pace RC305 to be specific. Just waiting for the forks back from a service and a huge box from CRC 🙂

Binners- I'm thinking of hiring a Tiswas-style gunge tank.

Just the thought of it makes me feel all funny.

We'll see if it survives the mud-fest eh?

it's not normally too bad in February - there's mud but it's quite firm cos it's bloody freezing.

I suspect the usual war of attrition on drive-chains and brake pads will still apply though fella.

Mine's rather more prosaic. This is going to be turned into a SS crosser:

Very pretty. Seems a shame to kill it.

Nah. It's made of lugged gaspipe. Needs to be used, and I can't afford to build a full geared cross bike right now.

Gearing is going to be reasonably manly - 40x18 - but what the hell: I might as well die of something... 😉

If you die Jason will name a section of track after you to go with Rooley's Chin and Winkie's Wipeout.

Thinking of entering this but Is It really that harsh on the drivetrain?? Sounds like It could be a hoot but I don't want to destroy the bike.

Binners is referring to an entirely different event that happens to share the same name.

Enter it. Your drivetrain will definitely last longer than you... 😀

Your drive train will survive. It was the 12 hour epic of 2008 that killed a lot of bikes (and people).

However, there are about 15,000 trees round the course. Hitting just one of them may damage your bike.

shut up Binners - you're putting em off!
😉

Tell you what, I'll buy you a new drivetrain if yours wears out*

*probably not true

OOh I'm quite excited by the thought of some red trails in Philips park.

We took our 7 year old nephew to ride the 'blue' trails and he insisted on riding the berms, then got really scared. I guess he'll manage the 'red' trails by next year.
