On a freezing ride today it lost a load of oil out the top and dropped down leaving me with a now 20kg bike to ride five miles home with my knees round my ears.

Is this just a service? Is it easy? I haven’t touched it in four years, it’s been ace.

The o ring(s) at the top of the actuation rod will have failed. Easy fix if you follow the fusion service vid.

If I’m correct it’s one or both of the tiny o rings in this kit.

The service kit is about £20 and they are easy to service. You need a long 10mm socket and a large strap wrench for the collar.

My Hilo SL started to sag a little then started leaking oil. Changed he oil just incase it was low but loads came out if the collar seal. The kit has all the rubber seals and more.  I used 10w fork oil or you can use ATF fluid.  The X-fusion service video is great. I took my time and cleaned eveything up. If you have a vice this might help. I undid the top collar whilst in the frame as it' tight from the factory and only a large strap wrench would do. The mini wrench I had initially wasn't my strong enough.

Works a treat now

Just watched the video, it seems quite complicated.

It's easy once you get in there.

Turn it upside town and push it up and down a few times with the button pressed first - that gets the air into the bottom of it where the valve is.  This is important, as if you don't do that you won't release the air pressure and it'll explode.  Then you just undo the bottom cap, then the collar, and pull it all apart.  Replace o-rings and reassemble.  Easy - but you have to know the procedure for letting out the air and putting more in.

Oh, and the instructions don't tell you exactly how much oil to put in.  In my 27.2 it's about 45cc IIRC.
