hi everyone, I’m after some advise on bike insurance/home insurance. I own a 2012 nukeproof mega that I’ve had since 2013 and just recently moved to a house with no garage or shed. I have never had any worry of the bike being stolen until a few weeks ago I was followed home while out for a ride with my two boys, i thought it may have been a coincidence that the bloke was going the same way as me but then I see him at my local shop hood up and again he followed me virtually all the way home. My bike along with my two boys bikes are chained up to a waste pipe ( concrete) in the back garden as I can’t keep them anywhere else. Could anyone recommend a company that would cover me for any loss or damage caused if they go missing? I have fitted a bolt lock to my gate and a security light but my landlord said no to a shed being erected in the garden. My bike probably isn’t worth much anymore but I could never replace it. Any help would be great

thanks luke

I would fix this before worrying about your bike.

I literally have nothing else to secure them to apart from a fence 😔 my landlord is a d**k.

Bike thieves have been known to cut through the frame to get to the parts.

Can you get one of those Asgard steel bike boxes?

I will have a search on the net for one. Most insurance companies want them in a locked building

One of these in the wall/ground and some motherflipping massive locks?

Welcome, by the way!  You'll like it here, as long as you steer clear of politics, in flight footwear and cephalopods.

Thank you! I have never been one for forums. I have just purchased a policy with Swinton and added my bike to it. I am going to order a nice wall anchor and new chain from crc that’s approved.

cephalopods - he squids you not.

Many premium household insurance products will offer cover for your bike up to around £1000 unspecified but they won't be the cheap options.

A ground or wall anchor and decent cable/chain should be your first line of defence though.

do not use a cable.  all easily cut

Use a lock/ chain that is at least 16 mm solid case hardened steel.  that makes it bolt cropper proof.  I use a kryptonite m18.  Use more than one lock

Most companies won't touch bikes locked outside unless they are really cheap and not worth claiming for. But hopefully the 2 boys make a noise when the locks are cut.

Oh dear.

advice = noun

advise = verb

As in, "I advise you (verb, present tense) to heed my advice (noun) and be more careful with your grammatical pedantry."
