My missus is starting to ride to work on a bike I built for her. It's an easy commute of 5 miles on an One One 456 with slicks. I think a rack and pannier will make it easeir and wondered if anybody can reccomend one?

Ideally, it would be waterproof and easy to remove from the bike so she can carry it around.

Thanks!

Thanks TJ.
I have not really considered a budget, looking for value for money I suppose. I would rather buy her a good quality rack & pannier that lasts (and potentially nick for my self from time to time!).

I have one of these:

For £13 it's a steal.

been using a Blackburn rack for some years - not expensive but sems solid enough.

If sh'es going to be carrying panniers aroudn she may want some of the 'posher' ones that don't look too much like you're off on your hols?

Blackburn racks are ok, although I've snapped a weld on a few, but never had a problem with warranty replacment. And I was carrying an awful lot of stuff.
Presently have an OMM as it was the only one that would fit my Thorn and it works fine.

Altura panniers are good. But I'd go for a fully waterproof bag (not just with a rain cover) and for commuting, go for a bright colour! No one likes a ninja...

i've been using the "tortec velocity" for a few years, suprisingly sturdy given its low weight. Probably more suited to a lightish road bike rather than a 456 though.

For reasonably cheap and good quality racks I agree that Tortec are good, also I have a topeak dx which is very sturdy, designed very well and good for the money

Is very handy & not expensive. (<£20?)
They do a special rack that it just slides on to, but I had a rack anyway.
