[Closed] Help Please - Post Mount Fork with IS caliper

Hi All,

I know this has probably been repeated time and again but I could do with some help.

I have just purchase a pair of 2012 Rock Shox Reba RL's which I intend to mount my IS 180mm Hope Mono Mini on. I DO NOT want to +20mm, 180mm is enough.

I have seen the KCNC adapter, anyone used it for the otion above? I have herd it does and doesn't work sometimes, it can hit the fork!

However if I buy one of these: (160mm adapter - guessing the caliper will be pushed out more than 160mm, for the 180mm rotor)

Option 1: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=13749
Option 2: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=53588
Option 3: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=20304

Would it work for my Hope 180mm rotor?

Thanks for your Help
Neil

Your forks are PM and you are trying to put a IS brake mount on?

I think this is what you need http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=53587

I had this exact same issue recently. You have no choice but to increase rotor from 180mm to 200mm because of the way the adapter sits higher when mounted on the fork. I checked this with Hope and they confirmed it.

You will need the HBSM20H mount. Details here

I think i got my mount from Wiggle.

Hi Shorty, thanks for your help. Yes that is correct PM forks and IS caliper, trying to get them to fit.

I note the link, although I have a feeling doing so may increase the rotor size required, as it will push the caliper out more, which is why I was asking whether the 160mm adapter may only push the caliper out a small fraction, so would sit neatly with the 180mm rotor.

Thanks for your comment mdb.

I was worried this may be the case. I do not really want a 200mm rotor. Plus by the time I buy a new rotor and adapter I may as well just buy a new Post Mount brake and just sell the old one.

Try the kcnc adaptor from clee cycles. If it doesn't line up, send it back. For the price of an adaptor, it has to be worth a punt. No other way of doing it without going up a size.

I was worried about going to 200mm rotor but the only difference i can find is better stopping power.

Hi Onzadog, I think that is going to be the only option. Thanks

Clee Cycles are happy to refund the price of the KCNC adaptor if it doesn't fit, a mate tried one recently, Hope Mini onto some Bombers and it fouled and he got his money back no problem.

Try Superstar or Disco brakes - they make every adapter known to man!

have you checked, cause I have, and Superstar don't do a suitable one (haven't looked at disco TBF), as my m8 needs one for his Marz forks and Hope brakes... I found the Clee cycles one but haven't tried it yet.

Wasn't there a similar adapter Giant produced? (or am I confusing it, not hard for me)

Having a search round, suggest the Giant MPH adapter is for 160mm disc's (correct for the mounts though) but the Ashima AU22 maybe what you need:

http://www.ashima.com.tw/products_02_14.html
(no idea where you'd get one from though)

A2Z should also have one that would be compatible, but I've given up trying to figure which you'd need...
http://www.a2zcomponents.com/02products_04adapter_03.html

God this is making my brain ache, why should be a simple adapter be so complicated to find?

Hi Zippy,

Thanks for your enthusiasm. I just googled and found this old singletrack thread about the same subject:

http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/postmount-fork-is-caliper-possible

Looks as if the A2Z one is no good!

The Ashima one looks like it might work. Will have to find were they sell them.

I think it will end up being the KCNC one though, and fingers crossed it does not hit the fork, why there is such a bend in it I don't know.

Thanks for your help 🙂

Minicoop, I recently had this problem and bought a KCNC adaptor which works fine. I never even used it as I bought a lefty, it's for sale if you want it, paid £9 so gimme £7 and it's yours.

Thanks loddrik, but to be honest, if it does not fit, I would rather be able to send it back to buy another. Thanks for the offer though.

This is becoming more and more common as many new forks are now PM. What seems to be happening is when people change their forks that are set up I.S calliper and I.S forks, the replacement fork is P.M. So an adapter is required.

In simple terms its governed by your existing I.S caliper type. If its a short tab version then 180 is your minimum size with the correct mount. If you have the long tab caliper its not possible in most cases as the adapter will not clear the caliper body. Meaning 200mm rotor with bigger adapter is the only option.
I tried all the adapters and ended-up buying a post mount caliper, Job Done.!
