[#2971128]

So,
My riding bud has one of these :
http://www.orangebikes.co.uk/bikes/2010/g3/
Crank on the spec is a Shimano FCM442.

The BB has given up !.
Cant work out if its a Square Taper one or Octalink.
Even if I could work out if its a Square Taper or octalink, the axles come in different lengths dont they ?

Which ever it is, can anyone send me a link to a new one!.
Always used external HT2 BB's so this Square taper / octaling business is new to me.

HELP !
Thanks

says it's Octalink.

Axle length is probably best established by removal of existing unit unless you phone Orange and ask them what was fitted?

Take the crank bolt out and have a look chance are it's square I'd have thought. Axle length depends on the crank set so if he's keeping that then measure the axle length.

Just a thought but why not remove the BB and see what it says on the side of it? If it is going to have to come out to be replaced anyway I would have thought this the most sensible plan.

wwaswas, FCM442 was made in both square taper and then in Octalink. It is likely to be the later version but it is not 100% definite.

Cheers all, I really wanted one ready to go in when the old one was taken out hence trying to figure out what it is before.

Keep the ideas coming.... ๐Ÿ˜†

Thanks ๐Ÿ™„

ah, then as above - take it out, have a look, put it back, buy a new one, remove it again and fit new one.

You don't need to take it out but if it's broke then why not take it out. In the time it takes to read these threads it could be done.

If you really want this and can't wait, buy one of each or phone the manufacturer.

The image you link to, the crank has the octalink logo on the crank arm, so I'm guessing octalink? ๐Ÿ˜•
