Mate has abused his NRS to the poitn where the main pivot bearing has collapsed and left the outer race behind, stuck behind the lip...
So how to get this bearing race out? Cross section below.
I've tried hitting it at an angle but it just keeps sliding off the inner face. So next idea is to cut a slot in the lip so I can get access to hit the back of the bearing race.

I would like to avoid cutting it, so any smart ideas out there?

Blind bearing puller.

You can sometimes make you own using a expanding bolt or I have made one by jamming a washer in the bearing race - I ground it oval and slid it in at an angle - it wedged when pulled straight then I pulled the bearing out with a studded bar / spacers

Heat the housing - it makes a huge difference especially if its an alloy housing - even boiling water helps

you could try just cutting a small slot in the bearing surface so that you can get purchase with a flat screwdriver blade - no need to go all the way through, just a small ones 180 degrees apart.

As TJ said although I've thought of an alternative.
If you can find a bearing cone (cheapie wheel cone?) and bearings the right size you may be able to insert them into the old bearing race to give yourself something to push on. I've not tried it myself and it sounds a bit fiddly but I'd give it a go if that was my problem.

Don't give up on trying to bash it out, work your way round methodically, also as per TJ heat up the frame up (several kettles of water onto rags wrapped round the offending part)

Otherwise

Post your location and hope a STW local got a Blind Bearing Puller?
Either that or phone round the local engineers (mechanic's sometime have em too) and find one that got the tool to do it for you?

EDIT: This is a Blind bearing puller, that one you've pictured doesn't seem to be for 'blind' insertion (??)

PS: I have a set but am no where near Exeter ๐Ÿ˜ณ (Going from your uplift post)

use a dremel to cut into the outer race bearing surface about half way down so you can get a sharp bladed screwdriver into it - you don't need to get behind the bearing then.

mostlybalanced that is also a V good idea. I was thinking of how to get some balls back in there so it could pull out. This is a genius idea as I have a few old knackered wheels about the place. Just a case of finding cones the right size, and jiggle the balls in..

I've got a stuck outer race out before just with a screwdriver, hammer and a lot of stubborn-ness. Took ages, but got there. Keep at it!

yep zippy I'm in Exeter.

All good ideas stw'ers, thank you. Plenty to try tonight before putting my hand in pocket!

Failing that anyone got any NRS pivot plates?

rawl bolts make good bearing pullers, a lot cheaper than a proper kit.

Past caring, that is also genius.

Christ I'm going to give up trying to work stuff out on my own and use the hive mind every time.

Repetitive use of a Birmingham Percussion Tool rarely fails when teamed with a punch.
