I have a small dilemma. I've broken my 4th Carbon Rim (rear's), 2 x Superstar specials years ago, and in the last 2 years 2 x DT XMC1200's (painful £££). I'm often told carbon is not for me, which considering ive recently put Carbon bars on, flys in the face of that advice.
I don't think I’m a particularly heavy rider. I ride a Banshee Rune as the normal everyday , Context though, i have however broken 3 Spitfires – 1 x rocky, 1 x Spec, 1 x Trek (steel) 3 x Coves (Gspot, Stiffee, Hustler) – but the Dialled PA survived.
So, back to the wheel;
Crash replacement DT wheel is going to be £260 -same Carbon rim – which as im off to Canada im slightly nervous about (the last one was done in the US). I’ve asked if they could put and EXC330 on, but ive been advised maybe not for me still. Now, I do have EX511’s on my Enigma (Hardtail) – those mounted on the Pro5’s are brilliant wheels -well done Hope btw...
Option a. Crash replacement, and then sell full wheel on, + New build wheel -Pro5with EX511
Option b. Crash replacement, and then sell full wheel on, + New build wheel -Pro5with FR541
Option c. Crash replacement, new EXC330 if they accept that
Option d. Crash replacement, existing spec..

Do you have any idea why you keep braking stuff?
No idea on the options, but I'd be trying to work out why I keep breaking stuff. Maybe spending money on a skills day would save you money on parts longer term?
Indeed why you are breaking things is really important here.
Where do you ride and how is your riding style?
What tyres and inserts?
How, erm, svelte or Viking like are you?
Do all your riding buddies also destroy stuff at the same rate?

That long list of frame and wheel breakages would suggest otherwise....
OK, maybe the frame breakages (and parts) might suggest im "enthusiastic" - im a surrey hills rider, im ~95kgs kitted give or take fairly fit - do like to jump, drop etc, im not quite float like a butterfly sting like a bee, but im not what some of my mates are like who crash through stuff -yet speed is your friend is the general mantra - im frankly surprised they've not broken more - however last week did result in a snapped ROTOR crank for someone..
In my defense, the wheels were pretty much riding along incidents. I don't like to run tyres too high pressures, but they are certianly into the 30's. I did think about inserts, but the bike and rotational mass is enough (i run DD minions). The last borked wheel was done on some roots as the bike packed down out of a compression berm.
