Swapping out a dropper post from a steel frame to a carbon

I'm taking a dropper post out of a steel frame and plan to use it in a carbon one and it has some light surface rust. I"ve wiped most of it off with a clean cloth. Is this OK to insert into a carbon frame without doing anythig more than adding friction paste?
