I’m looking to get a new waterproof jacket for MTBing in the rain. I’m looking for:
- lightweight and waterproof, of course
- strong enough to resist getting cut up from the inevitable falls and thorns
- a hood to go over my helmet
- a “Napoleon Pocket” for my phone and back pocket(s) for my other junk.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
Royal Racing Matrix is good, roomy cut without being a sail. Decent pockets and a big hood. Also seems to be on sale everywhere. Very cheap direct from Royal if you take a small...
Endura Singletrack II (I think) probably does them all, but depends on what is classed as lightweight - it isn't heavy but it isn't very light. Also depends on cost...
Don’t buy Fox. They’re completely shite. I recommend Norrona if you have the cash.
Specialized sent me a link to a big clothing sale that they have on at the moment. The WP jackets were on offer.
ShowersPass refuge 👌. Also a STW members discount.
Hood is a tight fit over my new Fox MIPS helmet but does OK.
If you have a local Decathlon I’d suggest a visit yhere
ive 2 jackets from there which cost about £60 each and are much better than the £150 IXS jacket I bought in the sales
Something Goretex will be best. I like my Sweet Protection.
The taping failed on my Endura and they simply didn’t want to know. “Take it to the dealer.” But I didn’t have one as it was a gift. Stopped replying to email. Very disappointing.
My Gore brand Goretex shorts failed. Again a gift, no receipt. Gore changed them.
I bought an Endura Single-track jacket from cyclestore.co.uk the other week for around £65. Seems decent so far.
Royal Racing’s ‘Storm’ jacket is rather good. Strong and stretchy without being too hot. Lots of zips and pockets. Giro make some good stuff too.
Keela Saxon.
Made in Glenrothes by workers on living wages, repairable there and around £110 direct from the factory. Lightweight, breathable, durable. Ideal.
