Sorry, this has been done alot I know, but the search function just returns a load of stuff from 10 years ago which of course is not much use
Looking to renew my home insurance and can't use current provider (esure) for non-bike related reasons so need a new provider
I have a Spesh Stumpy and a Trek Rail, both new worth around the £5.8k mark each. We have nothing else of value at the house so no other specific requirements
Nationwide seem OK but won't accept bikes over £5k unless you call them and wait ages for a response (tried last year)
M&S reading the docs seem like they cover up to £100k without it needing to be specified, with the option to specify to get cover away from home up to £10k. I'm pretty sure there was a thread about them lately but can't find it
Been through comparison sites but most aren't interested in insuring expensive bikes looks like
Any advice on alternatives, or whether I've read that M&S policy doc correctly?
Aviva were excellent when I claimed after a crash a few years ago.
I've just gone with Nationwide, I've listed all bikes (and replacement value) for anything over £500. Most expensive bike was £4800 though. They were considerably cheaper than my Aviva quote to continue.
Halifax here. The good bit is that they have no stipulation for specific locks or security measures in where the bikes are kept. I was thinking I'd have to get a new garage door but they're not bothered. Bike live chained together and to a pair of ground anchors but I could just leave them in a crappy wooden shed and they'd still be covered.
Bad bit is it's max £10k for all bikes with a limit of £5k per bike. They won't insure anything over that value so if my ebike get pinched, I'd only get tk back.
They also cover bikes against accidental damage which means apparently, I can claim if I bend it on a tree. which I didn't realise.
Marks and Spencer has a good bike policy, new for old etc. someone said payout was hassle free. I’ve just taken out a policy but have no experience of the claims process.
Thanks! Will go with M&S then I think
I too use M&S and thankfully haven't needed to claim.
I’m with M&S - bikes are covered in garage and also locked to anything immovable, but as the garage is rather shonky I’ve put Pragmasis wall anchors on one immovable wall and Pragmasis chains through all the bikes that are hanging from Steadyracks, so if by chance an insurance adjustor comes round and says that garage is really just an outbuilding, I’m still locked to something immovable to avoid a downgrade in coverage.
If you haven’t already done it, go through Quidco for M&S. £34 cash back.
M&S bank was good for me. No specific requirements for locks etc. And happy to cover the bikes of similar value to the OP.
