Hi all

After taking steps to change my mtb to 1 x 10 I decided to buy a new sram nx crank.

It arrived today so I decided to fit it straight away. I removed my current sram crank from its bb30 bottom bracket. I slid the non drive into place and then tried to screw the drive side onto the shaft. However, it was really stiff and I was unable to turn it with an Allen key. So I used my much larger torque wrench to try and free the crank bolt. It moved a little but was very stiff. But rather than getting easier to move it has now completely seized.

Just to be clear, I have not installed the drive side. The crank is still in two pieces but The crank bold is seized within the crank.

Help - any thoughts on how to fix this?

JC

sounds like you cross threaded it and the bolt is now stuck on debris from the cross threading. Work it back and forward a little with heat and penetrating oil. Do not use a lot of force.

I'm in two minds , but shall post anyway.

On the drive side arm which bit did you try and turn ? The crank bolt 8-10mm hex key or the cap over the top of it ?

Sounds like the bolt is mis aligned. Either try and tap is straight before fitting, or take it back.

... or of course you're tightening the 10mm not the 8....

I used hot water and penetrating oil and eventually freed it up. Seems the top cap was just over tightened when it was assembled. Once I'd loosened it the bolt would move freely and I was finally able to assemble my crank.

Now running 1 x 10 and loving it

Ps. I should have just sent it back but I was impatient and wanted to install and go riding
