I’m due a new helmet but I’ve got a small head, I’ve tried the all mountain enduro type helmets but I look ridiculous.
Does anyone still make the older style helmets?
Try a few on in a bike shop if possible. I recently bought an IXS in extra small. A great fit and the turny thing at the back allows for buffs in winter.
Mrs_oab's pinhead has a Giro Verce / Tremor / Gain(?) which are all from same mould as youth, women's or XS men's. Good coverage, proper cradle, Enduro stylee, weener head fitment.

Aye I think a trip to the lbs is in order. Cheers.
Fox speedframe fits my wee head nicely, I usually look like a Mario character in most helmets!
I think some of the POC helmets are pretty small. The axion isn’t a big chunky thing. I’m a medium in giro and the m/l POC Tectal only just fits me.
Bell do a kids/youth helmet with MIPS and everything. Slightly too small for my wife’s (big) head but fits my brother
I probably explained it wrong, my head isn’t that small it’s just that my face is thin so when I put an all mountain type helmet on it just looks wrong. I’ve tried the poc tectal and that doesn’t suit me either.
The old type helmet that don’t have the lower/ deeper back on them suit me a lot better but I don’t know if anyone still makes them.
I've got a head like a peanut. Used to run IXS trail evo as they did an extra small, but the newer ones like the trigger don't come in tiny sizes. Current lids are a Troy Lee A1 kids large and a Giro Montaro II (which replaced a Giro Montaro I that I slammed into the ground). Tried but didnt fit - POC tectal, 100% Altec and a Fox of some sort. The giro has better ventilation and fits slightly nice, but the troy is better for those rare occasions when I wear goggles. The IXS used to pinch a bit in a couple places, but been very happy with the Giro so far.
I’m the opposite . I have a massive head and nearly all the Enduro/Trail lids look stupid on me as well.
Everyone looks ridiculous in a helmet
The key thing is fit. Using a cradle to make a too big helmet " fit" is detrimental to its protective qualities . Trl did a good piece on this. Look for one that is made in multiple shell sizes and get the shell size thats right for your head. You should not be able to get a finger between shell and head at any point. That probably means a more expensive one.
You could try decathlon helmets - btwin or Rockrider brands. They have a more old style xc size I think - whilst still looking decent.
I had one a few years back and it was nicely enough made - the outer plastic shell was moulded in one piece to the inner foam and the adjustment mesh Noam was decent.
Bargain prices too:

They do have one with more coverage which has a bit of a Fox look to it but would probably be chunky like you say a lot of helmets are:
