Hi
Hoping to head over to Hebden tomorrow for an evening ride, and hoping to make a day ( afternoon) of it.
Can anyone point me towards a decent loop to do in the afternoon in anticipation of some evening gnarr.
Either a quick verbal if it's easy to find, or one of those gpx things.
The only other time I rode there it was as dull as ditchwater as we stuck to bridleways, so hoping to rectify both those
Alternatively where to avoid...
This any good,?
(I have a horrible suspicion I know the answer to that..... If it was any good then people would have posted it before on similar threads instead of if going all " well son, the first rule of fight club....")
Sorry. Should have been clearer in my OP. The evening route is taken care of by some random local friend of a friend. So just looking for something to add on beforehand to make the drive fully worthwhile.
I’m working nights, or I’d happily take you for a warmup spin. Suffice to say, a mooch up to Stoodley Pike and then following your nose back down is a good pipe-opener for the hopefully more spicy stuff your pal-of-a-pal has in mind for this evening. The autumn colours are especially good at the moment. The Excited Goat on Crown Street has the nicest coffee in town too. Enjoy!

Yeh, you could ride it on a road bike to be honest!
For ease, I'd do something in the same area thats easy to follow your nose on (so BWs and no off-piste - trail names lifted from Strava to help!). From Hebden, go up to Jack Bridge on the BW (nice easy schlep up). Swing a right at the top and pedal up to Slack. From there you can do a footpath off to the left at the junction with (marked as "Alley To Wood"). Once in the woods, I've not done it for donkeys years since moving away but there were always 2 options, left and right. Both pop out on Blue Pig and both I remember being pretty good fun. Up Blue Pig (sorry!) to Heptonstall and then spin back up to Slack but this time take the BW off into the valley you climbed up first (marked as the Zig Zags). Down the hill on the BW back towards Hebden but swing a right onto the steep road at the bottom and climb up to Green House Lane. Along here are/were loads of off-piste tech going down towards the valley floor. Pick one.
Then cross over, climb up the other side of the valley, up to the Pike if you want/have time and then come back via Birthday X/Love Tunnel/whatever else its called on Strava - a Hebden Classico.
peckett well laps?
Many thanks for the suggestions. I'm the end I went up Pecket Well, down some slabs. Up to Hetponstall, past a mast and down an absolutely lovely zig zag thing. Then up towards Stoodley and down a ditch. The ditch was shit to start with but then went under some lovely weird little arched bridge and got amazing as it descended to the station.
Weirdly enough the second ride did the first two descents as well and some big XC type thing high on the moors. The mast zigzags especially opened my eyes to what HB riding is really about. There looks to be some insane stuff dropping down steeper.
Looking forward to the next trip....
Down the slabs to the NT car park? Very sketchy down there.
Ah the little arch, that’ll be Ernie’s Love Tunnel.
It’s all steep around here. Glad to hear you had fun.
Zig zag thing probably midget's pit I reckon
"Past a mast" must be Red Line past the bowling club surely? If you've gone through Hep.
Zig zag thing probably midget's pit I reckon
The one that pops out at the Fox and Hound? My son came a right tooler down there, twice. 😂

Sounds like it if it started at Hep and went past the mast near the bowling club although that said, there are multiple zig zags off there!
