Has anyone ever covered their Brake hoses with coloured heat shrink tubing? Is it safe to do or will the heat used to shrink the tubing melt/cause permanent problems with teh dot fluid or hose?
I've never done it but I can't see there being a problem as long as you don't leave the heat on for too long. You'll obviously need to remove the hose to get the heat shrink on so you can heat it up w/o any fluid in the hose anyway.
poisonspider. I had planned just to remove the lever end therefore leaving most of the fluid inside.
Why do you want to cover it in heatshrink? - just a colour change ?
I think it tends to stiffen up when shrunk, so between the bars and frame or around a suspsion linkage it might not be a good idea
Heat-shrink tubing needs a fairly low heat to activate so you should be fine. I find a hot air gun is great for longer runs, a zippo also works but you risk scortch marks. Don't trim it to length until you get to the end, it will also shrink a little in length as you heat along the hose.
As mentioned, it will make your hoses stiff and it may crinkle around sharper bends.
You don't need to heat it, just cut it to the right length and slip it on. Once the hose connections are back on, it can't exactly go anywhere ๐
But heat shrink will scratch just as bad as the hose, just use helicopter tape in the right places on the frame.
