I recommended a mate to buy these from Merlin http://tinyurl.com/3nlcnju
Hayes Stroker Ryde Front and Rear brake kit. From what I can find they are the 2010 model and that was the only year to have springs fitted to the pads. The earlier model doesn't have the springs and neither does the 2011 model.
Here's a link to the correct pads including the spring

You will notice that they are a pack of 25 and are now discontinued at CRC. Hotlines, the importer, still lists them but only in packs of 25 at £299.99!
He only needs the pad spring and none of the after market brands include the spring. Has any one else come across this problem and more importantly have a solution, mod or bodge?
I'm beginging to wish I sent him to Rose for some SLX now.
I'm sure Superstar sold ones with the spring
Looks like you are right Shorty121. Superstar offer a Y4 Stroker Ryde 2010 with no spring but the also do Y7 Stroker Ryde 2011 with spring.
The 2010 and 2011 thing is a bit of a red herring as I think it refers to the American model years which always 6 months in advance ie 2012 model comes out in June 2011. The Y4 and Y7 pads look the same.
TBH I didn't even look at Superstar due to the issues that some have raised with their pads. However, for £5.48 I have ordered a set of Y7's with that very important spring. We can test the pads too and find out if they are as good/bad as people say.
Thanks for your help and I hope the old karma thing shines on you.
Cheers :). Now you got a spring if you don't like superstar pads you can change em and keep the spring.
