As a satisfied user of Hayes HFX 9 brakes I now find myself in the market for some brakes for my new build. I bought a set of Hope Mono Minis off here with 180 / 160 rotors. Both calipers are IS mount. However the forks for my new build are post mount and I really can't be arsed with buying adapters, new mounts, shims and rotor. Much as I really wanted to use Hopes I am going to punt them on eBay and look at some Hayes.

Anyone any experience with the Stroker Trails?

Ive got the Stroker grams, same thing but lighter. Crackin brakes, running 8 inch discs, survived me dragging them down descents in the Alps for two weeks. Recommended.

Had some over a year now, still not had to replace the pads and done loads a miles inc a c2c. Bit squeeky in the wet and a pain to set up if you dont know how. But plenty of stopping power.

Got Stroker trail on my alpine and more than impressed with them. I run 203 rotors and they have not let me down once from uplift days to epics.

I've had Stroker Trails on my Heckler for the last 2 years, 203mm front + 180mm rear. They do get squeaky in the wet for some reason, but lots of power and no other problems. Used consistently for Vancouver North Shore + BC bike parks.

I've had a set for over two years and not had to touch them other than change pads obviously!

They seem fantastically reliable although they do feel a bit on/off compared to Avid etc

However, I've never managed to boil them even on DH days, and I'm quite um...large :-/

Got a set on the do-it-all bike. As mentioned they are quite on/off, but nice and powerful. Not had much problems with squeaking, apart from last week when it was wetter than a wet thing. Had them on for nearly a year and not even changed the pads yet - might be nearly time!

I bought a set a few months ago.... after just one rideout down at Kirroughtree the levers stuck on and I had to physically push them back into position... one email to Hayes and I was sent the "slow lever release kit" F.O.C, as apparently the fault was known to Hayes, haven't had a chance to get back out on my bike since I implemented the fix, but I was more than happy with the stopping power of the brakes on the first trip out, and also Hayes support is first class.... merling cycles are doing Stroker Trails pretty cheap... http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/Bike+Shop/MTB++Parts/Brakes/Disc+Brakes/

The sintered pads are fantastic in the wet, assuming you've bedded them in REALLY well beforehand.

Mine seemed to take a lot of tinkering compared to my XTs on the other bike, constantly trying to straighten rotors or free sticky pistons. They always worked, but just made the bike sound a bit squeeky and crap

Never really got on with mine. This can be totalyl attributed to my crapness, but there are a few issues with mine.

When they worked, feel was great, but often ended up with squeaking and singing pads due to sticky pistons, and also sticky levers (the piston would get sticky into the lever resevior). A MAJOR pain in the arse if conditions were muddy. ๐Ÿ‘ฟ

Never had the issue with Avids on other bikes, and decided on a pair of tech M4s for the new build for sheer loveliness and fabulous support from Hope. Wonderful brakes, so far faultless even after some serious abuse.

YMMV of course!
