Looks like another bike shop has fell victim to the online giants and closed down in my area first the Cyclery in Uppermill and now Surosa in Oldham, sad to see

Their website is down, but I'm sure there was an ad in the mag recently. FWIW I went in once for a poke about and it didn't strike me as the friendliest shop on earth.

If they have gone, Cycle Addicts and (ahem) Paulson's aren't far away (Rochdale), and I'd be astonished if there's not someone in Oldham.

Skidmores in Oldham, johnsons at stalybridge and high peak up at glossop are all in local range. Not as glamorous as Surosa but hey, they're still open

There's something on the Surosa FB page (which they've not updated themselves since 2010) from 06 Jan which says the shop has indeed gone, but that the online business continues.

Cycle Addicts is a great shop - well worth the effort.

It's a shame for Surosa. I've been in a few times and they were very expensive, so I don't think I ever bought anything.

Cyclery in Saddleworth did close but they are up and running more just as mechanics/workshop/sell a few things as Bikeanics in Greenfield.

There must be more to this than financials. Didn't they sponsor one of the local roadie clubs?

it didn't strike me as the friendliest shop on earth.

Went in once looking at a Cube Fritzz. Had pretty much decided I wanted one but needed to demo as I was between sizes. I spoke to the husband and wife that ran the shop and left after a very frustrating 20 mins of trying to arrange a demo during which they pretty much told me they thought I was going to steal the bloody thing and wouldn't let me even sit on one in the shop!

Never went back.

Its always slightly side when a local business ceases trading but as many have said Surosa's local reputation was mixed at best. I lost interest in them when I took my bike to be serviced to be charged an additional £10 for cleaning it - I'd cleaned it at home so its wasn't bad. At the time I just thought right you can do this once but that's it. Never been back!

I bought my Cube Stereo from them a couple of months ago (online, never met them).
Can't say they were overly friendly, but certainly very professional and it was cheaper than everywhere, even CRC

Sad if they have gone, I'd gladly have recommended them.

Surprised at this I went in just before xmas to scavenge a bike box from them for a frame I'd sold.

Its not my LBS but I was in the area working so called in, spoke to the Husband side of the team I think in the workshop and he seemed pleasant enough and had a good range of cube bikes in , prices were on the high side I noted.

I always thought this newer shop they had was a odd location as no real parking available unless you want the faff of the local tesco's and the slight push upmarket with regards to stock seeing as Oldham is not exactly renowned as a affluent area.
