Just fitted an HTII bottom bracket, just a basic shimano bb-51.
Fitted it as you do, drive side cup, then non-drive side. All fine so far. Used the old spacers to make sure it was all the right size and stuff.
Anyway, as I put the chainset through and gave it the tap, it popped out a plastic cap on the none drive side.
It's the bit that goes between the crank and the BB cup.
I can't get it back in.
Why has that popped out?
Have I broken it?
Yes. ๐
no you haven't, mine does that. bob in a cup of boiling water for a minute or so and push back in carefully. if you do break it i have a spare i can let you have on friday (coming into sheff)
Nice one.
I'll give that a go.
Cheers
pook mine popped out just the other day in the exact same situation. mine popped straight back on but i was advised the boiling water thing too.
they are dead brittle plastic so be careful
It's annoying when that happens, but it doesn't seem to actually do any harm if you just push it back in (not tried hot water though; that's a good idea).
Or maybe it kills it slowly, after about 5 months, in which case tomorrow it will stop working.
Boil kettle, wait 30 secs, pour into cup or bowl, 30 secs till pliable, out, pop back in...job done.
