[#3259842]

Hi

So i recently bought an 09 Orange ST4 second hand and when it came there was a crack in the BB. This isn't the issue by the way, the seller was great and has sorted out a replacement that i received today.

Now obviously im cautious about the frame, it's now the 2010 beefier chainstay version, i know it's new but it worries me that i will always be wondering if it will crack.

What would you do in this situation, would you just build it and forget and ride it till it maybe broke? or would you sell the new frame and buy something you would be more confident with?

i know this is a great frame and most likely would never have an issue. The niggling doubt is driving me mad.

It's sat all pretty and new just waiting... What would you do?

cheers guys

Look at how much they go for 2nd hand, then see if you could get something you'd be happier with for the dosh.

I don't think they have a history of failures after the new chainstays. Sounds like the last one was unlucky maybe?

Sell it to me for 500? 🙂

Ask the seller what sort of riding they did on it & what they weigh.
The seller has sorted you out & has no further obligation/commitment to you, so has no need to lie, if he rides harder than you or is much heavier then keep it,if it is the other way around then sell it & buy something more suitable..

HTH

Cheers.

Yeah it seems like he was a both wheels on the ground sort of guy.

Either way it's a lovely frame if I sell it that's great if not I'll ride it till/if it breaks.

It's a lovely looking thing :-

No it really wasn't meant to be, if any mods can remove that pic then please do.

I genuinely don't know what to do.

Build it & ride it & stop being such a girls blouson.

Not a fan of Orange, but got to say that looks bloody nice in white.
White forks, blue or red Hope hubs & matching bits scattered around...
Mmmm.

Ha a girls blouson awesome!

Yeah I'm thinking that way. If I worried everything might break I'd never buy/ride anything.

Any advice what price to advertise this at? Had an offer on pinkbike but it was a time waster.

If you worry about an Orange frame breaking there wont be many you are happy with. Ride it. Build up confidence until you realise it wont break. Then be happy.

ok, you say the one before was cracked.. the previous owner (seller) must have had it got a warrenty replacement for you, yes?
Well what the issue with them doing it again, if it does happen, drop em bottle of something for the hassle.. wots the issue?

Just ride it ffs!

I bought a Genesis core 40 and bodged a tabletop on it, The niggle that the frame maybe damaged and may fail was in the back of my mind, but the way I see it is that: If the frame breaks then I buy myself a lovely latitude frame and put all the bits from my core (Easton haven bars included) onto it, which would be quite a nice upgrade don't you think...

Maybe the crack in the first one was caused by an accident, nothing to do with the frame being crap or riding style 😉

This is a weird thread!
Buyer recieves frame, notices crack, seller offers refund, buyer ends up with new warranty replacement frame from seller, but still worried so puts it in the classifieds. Very odd. I must be missing something.

In the end we never agreed on a refund, it was offered that I have the replacement.

Nothing confusing I simply can't shake the niggle.

Simple as that. I should have just opted for the refund but didn't. My bad.

Hi....

How dare you post up a picture of a white st4 frame in my size? I had one built up with white forks, red hope headset, bb, seat qr and rotors and black hubs. Lookd ace and rode even better. I sold the frame for a Cotic soul...wish I had kept the st4 aswell. Climbed superb, accelerated like a scalded dog, went downhill as quick as my old 5!

Excellent frames, id have nother if I could get one for the price I paid for a brand new warranty replacememt of fleabay!

If u want to sell it mate email me on mikedonald@hotmail.com and we can talk... I know I shouldn't but they are sooooooooooo good.

Depends on how much you paid?

I presume you didn't pay the £650 your asking for in the classifieds

so either way your in profit, if i was the seller id of given you a refund, and took my chance selling a new frame on here or ebay

So are you asking more than you bought it for? If so then your only real issue is how much you can make out of it, this thread has read like an ad from the start.
Just put it on ebay & take your money, the seller should of offered a refund & done it their selves, but that is there look out not ours, just stop punting it on the main forum & everyone is a winner.

Cheers.

I don't trust a frame til I've broken it at least twice. Otherwise, how can you know when it'll break?

I'd be amazed if that broke. My mate's got an ST4 (2011) and it is a cracking little bike and very solid feeling. Don't take this the wrong way, but I can't work out your logic re. the breaking thing. Anything can break or malfunction, but it doesn't mean that there is an inherent fault with every other item of it's type out there.

I strongly recommend riding it (but if you die riding it as a result of it folding in two then I won't accept any of the blame!).
