Well haterz, you were right, my disc mount FAILED, thankfully not in front of an oncoming bus etc.
Following this thread and a JRA
This:
now looks like this:
I think the upper bolt fell out, the caliper swung forward (the disc is bent), caught a notch in the disc and broke/pulled the lower mount off (it was secured with a bolt but I took too much meat off of it, as ever).
Oh well...
I think the upper bolt fell out
that's a pain after all that work ๐
๐ it's all part of pushing the envelope...
the trick with pushing the envelope is to make sure you use a bit of threadlock when bolting it closed ๐
๐
Write it off as bad luck and have another go (with threadlock, as WWW says ๐ ) Oh - and more-power-to-your-arm for coming on here with an update following the previous thread!!!
Would having the mount on the 'correct' side of the fork avoided this (to some extent) - if the top bolt fell out, the caliper would have swung forward until it hit the top mount? Still wouldn't have been pretty, but less likely to pull off the bottom mount?
how about bonding the adapter thingy straight to the fork?
Mk II?
The re-design will not have "what happens if the bolt falls out" as a design priority ๐
But the idea of having the mount on the LHS and thus in compression is tempting, but not the idea of the hub working it's way out of the dropout.
EDIT - WWW - yup, that's where I may be going with this...
So is this design flaw or operator error?
but not the idea of the hub working it's way out of the dropout.
I know this has been done to death a thousand times, but I've never had this happen, or even come close to it - choose base forks with 'lawyer tabs' if you think it'll be an issue.....

So, effectively, post mount? Done right, could save a bit of weight?
Haterz gonna hate
If at first you don't succeed...
Keep at it.
The problem with pushing the envelope is you sometimes get papercuts..

Well done you.
Well done you.
Thanks ๐
It was a valiant effort, if at first you don't succeed blah blah blah!
Cheers guys

I have....and with this bike I run an allen key skewer, so I am a little concerned, I guess I could tap the axle to take M6 nuts tho.
Full marks for effort though. I'm impressed you tried it out.
Loser
atcha
Gives smug knowing look
Main thing is you are unhurt and sounds like it was bad luck rather than poor design ...did i really just say that ๐ฏ
pick yerself up Al and start again, do it bigger do it betterer , turn a negative into a positive and come back with yer head held high.
Am doing so nonk - I think a CF-only strut will work best ๐ฎ
As for you yunki, I never imagined you as smug ๐
