Shite shifting yesterday - took the wheel out and the mech hanger had sheared off. Not a mark on the mech so wonder if the suspension compression had fatigued the hanger?

No, but I've snapped 3 hangers and bent 2 on 4 different bikes with totally different mechs. Does that help? 🙂

Peter I'll up that to about 12 snapped and countless bent on 3 bikes.
