The mrs and I are planning on cycling with our niece and nephews in the spring - only problem is that she doesn't have a bike.
I do have a fully built up spare 26inch Nukeproof Mega (in large, so no good frame wise!) with reasonably decent kit on it (150mm pikes (27.5 inch version), xt 11sp etc) which I intended to sell when I got my Aeris 145, but has in fact just sat in the conservatory gathering dust.
So the plan would be take the kit off the Mega and put it on a hard tail frame for her.
Any suggestions of a good frame - she's 5ft 2 so not terribly tall. She's ridden a full sus (XS Whyte T130 iirc) a few times at swinley and enjoyed it but we don't want to really spend a grand or so getting a full sus frame (she's more of a runner)?
The wheels I've got are 26inch flows on hope hubs, but i'm wondering if we should bin those and just get a pair of cheap 27.5 wheels. The rear flow wheel is a bit dinged, but serviceable. The 27.5 inch option is possible, as the forks are actually 27.5 inch ones.
Realistically, she'll be massively overbiked, but given we've got the kit lying around... why not. May want to try and reduce the travel on the forks I guess.
Don't really want to spend more than 300 quid - for that we'd need to include:
Frame
Bits and pieces (ladies saddle etc)
Wheels and tyres if 27.5
Bits to reduce the travel on the Pikes (Assuming you can!)
(Obviously, if anyone wants to flog me a XS full sus 26er frame, i'm all ears!)
Hmmm got an old Scott contessa in the loft, need to check size though. Think it might be small rather than xsmall. Wife is about 5' 4" and it was fine for her.
Akira - is it a full sus or a hardtail? If you could have a look that'd be great. Could always compare the numbers to the whyte she rode.
Full sus, think it's about 100mm travel. Nothing special but would get her out and about. I'll have a look this afternoon.
Great thanks.
Anyone spotted any cheap hard tail frames around in case Akira's bike is too big?
Anyone tried this: https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/brand-x-ht-01-27-5-hardtail-frame-2019/rp-prod130452
15" may be a bit big tho.*
*That's what she said, etc etc.
Mine rides a small Dialled Bikes Prince Albert and rates it a lot. She's 5ft1
There are a few Cubes for under £100 on Bikediscount.de, sizes 13.5, 14 and 16
Cool - just had a look, don't think any one them would take a fork longer than 100mm. Also seat tube is too small for the reverb (30.9)

Yes, I built one of those last year when they were £70 and I fancied a project.
It's a good solid enough frame that takes a tapered fork (I put a 140mm on mine). You'll have to file out the cable guides to run full length enclosed cables.
BB isn't too low so should take 26" wheels ok, which was my original plan until I got carried away and bought new everything for it. There's a couple of reviews from people who run 26" on it.
Thanks Phil - need to work out if it's too big...
Comparing the Whyte xs (based on data on gemoetry geeks - can't find it from whtye for their 2016 frames)....
Whyte XS
Reach 415mm
Stack 576mm
Eff Top Tube 571mm
Head angle (130mm forks) 67
Seat Angle 74
Standover 761mm
BB height 331mm
Brand X 15"
Reach 396mm
Stack 606mm
Eff Top Tube 570mm
Head angle (130mm forks) 68
Seat Angle 74
Standover ???
BB height 331mm
All things being equal (and not having stack height for the brandx), i think the above is saying from a reach point of view it'll be fine, but may find there isn't enough top tube clearance.
I have new unused small Marin nail trail frame and 27.5 wheels with tyres and rotors that would be under your budget. PM me if interested.

Mrsbeanz is 5'2" , she rides a small T130. She's had a few 14" 456 , a salsa mariachi , orange five , giant trance , a superlight. Plus a few others. Plenty of choice out there second hand.
got a little used 14" on one inbred frame for sale. email in profile
Hmmm thought it said size on it but it doesn't. It's definitely small or X's but can't remember which. Think it's the 2007 contessa FX 25
Standover ???
I could measure mine later tonight for you, but not sure how useful it would be. It's a large frame.
When I read the thread title, I thought you were offering some sort of barter arrangement......
Nail trail could be an option. Looks like it's possible to redcuce the travel on the fork, but it's a moderate ball ache...
Where else is good for second hand frames? Pink bike?

Ha! I think I would get in trouble for that, on the other hand, how nice a frame are you offering?

It's not much more than a lowers service. I also have a 120mm airshaft from a yari which I think goes in a pike to give 130mm on 27.5 fork, you'd need to check that though.
I believe you're correct on that.... You're a one man bike emporium! Where abouts are you based?
I'll talk to the mrs tonight.
Daughter is about that height and riding a very old Commencal Normal xs frame
Haha I just don't seem to get rid of left over parts when doing bike builds or swapping things around. Much to my missus' disdain.
Based near Bristol. Can post at cost. Of course I have a box 😀
There's a small Bullit thats been up and down eBay and Gumtree, IIRC it was orginally listed for £150 frame only.
Says pickup only but if you wanted a hand with that I'm sure an arrangement could be come to.
Alternatively eBay is awash with small frames, I think every other one is either a field gate or tiny.
Whoops, not trying to cockblock mark90!
No worries the OP is after options 🙂
But I could do with the money for a new bike 😉
Mark - will DM you
