Hi all

I am due to ride the translps challenge this summer and need to transport my bike to the event (15 - 25 July) and to Majorca over the second and third week of June to do my final peak training (and keep my long suffering other half happy!).

I have never flown with my bike but reckon I probably need a hard box (but welcome views on this). Does anyone have one to lend or can recommend a good, cheap light box to buy? I am based in London.

Also, I am due to fly with easyjet but can't seem to work out what their pricing policy is. Does anyone know if it is £18 flat fee for a bike box weighing up to 32kg or is it £18 for 20kg with a £10 per additional kg?

Grateful for advice and any generous offers (I will be raising money for Macmillan Cancer Nurses).

Many thanks
Woody

Put a cardboard bike box inside a conventional bike bag. Solid as you like.

Your easyjet allowance with the bike fee paid is 32kg for the bike plus 20kg for your bag.

See the end of section 10 on this link.

I wouldn't go hard case though, they're very heavy before you even put the bike in and most I've seen are roady sized so trail type mtbs are a pain to get in.

I'm in Stirling and have a hard case (for sale - £50) - but available for a loan if you can get it. It's big and takes up a lot of space to transport (and store) but your bike will be very well protected.

I've got a big Kooka wheeled bag you can borrow if you like - its not going anywhere near a plane with me until October at the earliest.
I live in Northampton but work down in London quite a bit so shouldn't be too much of an issue to deliver.
I can even chuck in a fresh tube of pipe lagging if ya like.

Failing that I will be at God nows how many sportives between now and June and a few MTB races too !
